FlipSideUp went down tonight... he is fine.

I just got a text from DrPimpRide (friend of Rob who I ride with) and he and Rob were riding down Hwy 6 (southbound past Logenbaugh around 9:30 PM) when a Honda traveling north decided to U-Turn in front of Rob. Rob braked and then low sided his bike and rolled a few times. The car barely avoided running him over.

He is fine. His right hand palm is sore even though he was wearing gloves and some left knee road rash. His jacket and helmet are scuffed up (to be replaced). His bike had to be towed away. Total damage unknown. He is OK and in good spirits. DrPimpRide just dropped him off at his house. He is a doctor so it was fortunate that they were together tonight. They texted me about going and I decided not to go and now I feel that I wasn't there for my friend of 18 years but am glad that he is fine.

Rob texted me when he got home that he is OK.

Don't know if the Honda driver was ticketed or not.

Hope the 919 isn't damaged too much.

I am sure Rob and DrPimpRide will post more info soon.

Holy ! I just saw Rob and his beautiful bike on Monday @ TWS (Texas World Speedway)!
He is VERY lucky to be alive with the way you said things went!
I'm really glad he is okay! Gotta ride defensively out there guys, cagers make bad judgment calls all the time and this kinda thing can happen to the best of riders. Do the best you can to be aware of your surroundings!

Thanks for all the well wishes and concern MH!

It basicly went down as descdibed. I was heading southbound on Hwy 6, and at the stop light at Logenbaugh (sp?). Light turned green and off I went. Soon thereafter, a young kid pulls out of the Sonic to go Nortbbound. He must've soon realized he wanted to vo Southbound. There's no island median on Hwy 6. There's a shared transition lane, though. So he switched over to the turning lane, and without hesitation pulls a u-turn... right in front of me!

I had a feeling it was gonna happen. I got on the brakes, but when I got within just a few feet of his right rear passenger door, I prepared to jump left as I grabbed alot of brake. Bike slid out right as I fell off left. Bike hit lower passenger door as he continued to straighten out southbound. He didn't want to completely stop to minimize my impact.
What he didn't realize is that this put me in a position where I was sliding along his left side right next to his driver door. So I'm sliding/tumbling as he's continuing to move forward with me. All the while, I'm looking at his rear wheel, hoping he doesn't turn into me and run me over! So when i finally got control of myself, coming to a stop, I deliberately knocked the back of my helmet into his driver door to let him know I was right beside him!

Anyway, he's a good kid who just made a poor decision. He acknowledged fault. He called his dad, who's brotber is a motorcyclist, and had just recently had a similar incident happen to him at Hwy 6/Hwy 290.

I'm ok... 919 not so good. Oh well.

WOW, gald your ok for the most part....big up's to the cager for doing the right thing and not running off. Also good that you had someone with you that not only could assist you, but not allowed the cager to speed off without at least getting plates!!!!

This... although a dumb mistake on his part, turned out better than most! good luck and thanks for sharing your story!
