i have been a volunteer ff since 98, i was a 911 dispatcher for 2 yrs, and have been a paid 911 medic for about 3 yrs.

every now and then, if everyones busy, you might have to wait a few secs to transmit. We have MCT's now ( mobile computing terminals ) so if the radio is too busy, we just tag it in there, and it sends it to our dispatch real time and timestamps it.

i heard about that, from what ive heard from a couple HFD'Ride Smart, there wasnt much said, just a discussion about what would happen if the white ff's started a white union since there is a black ff's union.

open mic's happen from time to time.

one night, responding to a crash on the kemah bridge, it was quiet out, no real traffic, and my partner and i were all hopped up on energy drinks. i grabbed what i thought was the PA, and let out one of a yell. grabbed the wrong mic. dispatch was on real quick asking if we were ok. couldnt stop laughing after that.

Those online feeds could be scanning 100+ channels or talkgroups. That's the thing about online scanners, you can't usually see who is talking. With my handheld I might be scanning 100+ channels or talk groups at one time, but i can look on the screen and see who is talking.

Your only limit to transmit is the traffic of others on the same channel or talkgroup. Each channel is not nearly as busy as listening to all of them at once.

RadioReference.com has all the frequencies you could ever want listed. Most of whats around here other than Houston PD/FD is on trunking. Some fire depts still simulcast on conventional frequencies though. fyi, programming a trunking system in by hand on a scanner is a nightmare. save yourself the heart ache and get a programming cable for your computer.

the ones i know off the top of my head are:

webster fire dispatch: 154.235 - they mainly transmit on 800mhz, but is simulcast on the vhf freq. that channel covers webster fire, and forest bend fire ( heritage parks fire dept. )

154.175 league city fire dispatch - again, simulcast

155.400 clear lake ems - simulcast - covers seabrook,kemah,CL shores, el jardin, parts of pasadena ( medic4 ) city of webster ( medic1 ) and heritage park areas ( medic2 )

thats all i can remember at the moment
