i have heard these on conventional pd channels, never looked to much into what they were four. maybe making changes to radio settings via air or something, or something to do with MDTs. Just a few guesses, I would have to look into it.

makes sense , is more technical than i thought, the cops and fds seem to communicate pretty well for so many codes

I think they are set test tones or something. I used to work for Ft Bend and I heard those tones as well. It has NOTHING to do with us or calls, etc.. I think it's built in to the radio system.

their are usually standards at least of some sort. interoperability is key.

FWIW HPD/HFD are one of the only a few major organizations in this area that still use conventional systems. most everyone else is on Harris County Regional Radio Network (formerly known as STARNET). It is a large scale Motorola II trunking system which allows far better radio interoperability between neighboring areas and much more efficient use of voice channels.

that's what i had figured, never heard anyone on a channel to talk about them or really even acknowledge them at all.

yeah i saw something on the news about haaris county being able to communicate better due to im guessing a somewhat digital radio frequency? and something like ot would cost the city around 100 mill to upgrade the radio service like harris co has

IIRC HPD has Motorola working on the new digital system. Someone told me that it would be done in 3-4 years. That was last year. Who knows. The city is SLOW!

I know there is one patch from A1 (Citywide) to a STARNET talkgroup. There are also a few other HPD talkgroups on STARNET (Fox, Narc & Tac). I am not sure if they are patches to a conventional channel, or just their own talkgroups for certain radios though.

I hear you there. City takes their time on these kinda things.

I would imagine that it makes sense for HPD to skip analog trunking and go ahead and go with a fully digital P25 system. but there would definitely be a long planned roll out for that. it would require a replacement of most of the radios on the system, and one could only imagine how many individual radios there are that make up the entire HPD/HFD system.
