Got arrested for speading... (reckless driving) need help

I got arrested for speeding on hwy 6. and going in and out of traffic but there wasnt too much traffic. He pulled me over when i came to a stop at the red light. That is when i caught up to me and put the light on. I was cooperative with the officer. I had no possession of anything or i wasn't drunk either. He said "I am not going to give you a ticket just for this kind off driving, you are going to jail". I had a history of speeding... I got 3 tickets in one year for my car. I need suggestion they charged me with misdemeanor B (reckless driving). I was in jail for about 10 hrs and I bailed out after paying 500 $. Do i need to get a lawyer, Is this a serious case. This is my first case or arrest. I dont have a history of cases. When I called the lawyer they said it is a criminal offense and they charging me like over 1500. Is it worth to get a lawyer for this much money for this case. If i need a lawyer. What is your suggestion. Can you suggest me one.

I was just being immature but I learned from it.

I have learned over the years that, and this is my opinion, even if its just a minor speeding ticket i always give it to my lawyer to take care of. Sometimes it costs a little more than the ticket its self, but not by much, but it nevers goes on my record and saves me that money in the long run on my insurrance. So yes.................... GET A LAWYER

If you are just planning on taking the first option they give you which is usually probation, time served, or something like that, then I would save your money on the lawyer. As you wouldn't need a lawyer just to deal with the DA.

On the other hand if you want to try and fight it and beat the charge and keep it off of your record, then yes hire a lawyer.

Hired David Sprecher for the ticket I just got. Court date was May 19. Now it is May 11 next year. Hoping to get out of it we will see.

I would hire a lawyer.

was he directly behind you and got you on video, or did he pass on the opposite side of the road? and turn around?

both of mine got dropped just by talking to the DA. I've had two charges for class b's for street racing, both got dropped due to insufficient evidence cause neither got me on video cause I passed them on the opposite side of the road.

if he was directly behind you then I'd get a lawyer.

most likely a lawyer will have it reduced to a class C misdemeanor, which is as harmful as a speeding ticket. You may have some community service, probation, defensive driving, and other court ordered activities; but, it really isn't the end of the world.

Chances are, you were better off with that than a speeding ticket in the eyes of your insurance company. I know my rates never went up, and it's not on my driving record. It can be removed (expunged) from your criminal record too, but it may not even be worth it.

i'll go ahead and ask...how many mph over limit were you going?

another thing, maybe someone else can chime in. what about your arrest record? had a friend tell me that it never clears, you get arrested for anything and its set in stone. buddy had it come up at his last job interview. lol he got arrested by a bike cop patrolling our apts back in college.

reckless driving isn't that harmful. At first, I thought my world was going to end...but it turns out, it doesn't even matter! I of course have changed my driving ways.

FYI A class b conviction will keep you from getting your chl for 5 years and you cannot apply for a govt. job for 10 years after conviction.

He wasn't 'arrested' for speeding... he was arrested for wreckless driving... there is a difference...

I say let him deal with the consequences... why help him get off?

this is what makes cops look down on sport bike riders as a whole...
