We are going to Los Alamos NM for the wifes 20th reunion. We are going the long way up through Colorado and back down. Playing it by ear a little. Trying to make it as memorable a trip as possible with the limited time that we have. First road trip for both of us. We are each taking our own bikes. There will be a thread about it in July so stay tuned.

i just got a netbook. it's an asus eeebook or something like that. the thing is tiny, like a little bigger than a dvd box, and it's got 160 gigs of hard drive.
you can even get them with dual core proccessors and solid state drives. the best thing about these are the price. mine was $250 from best buy. was so cash.
if i ever need a laptop on a road trip, im def going to take my wife's netbook.

I've been wanting to get a 9" Refurb Netbook from Dell - $219. I have always had good luck with Dell even though others haven't. Just kept taking too much flack about it breaking due to the vibrations on the back of the bike. Told him to post it up so some MAN could tell him it would be okay.

My laptop has been carried in my saddle on multiple trips and about 8,000-10,000 miles with no issues.

You can leave anytime you want...

You get to take your bike (The FZ6 ONLY) and the two dogs. You get to leave the kids and your paycheck.

YOU MARRIED IT!

Get a quality backpack, like Targus with a protective slot for your laptop. If possible (space allows) get a zip up neopreen sleeve for your laptop and double your protection. No worries about the hard drive. As long as the laptop is turned off the hard drive will be locked in place and you should be fine. It is possible that daily travel with a hard drive could shorten the life of the drive, but I did it for sometime and never saw any issues.

i would think that a tank bag would have some vibration issues due to being closer and more solidly fixed to the bike. and yeah, the magnets should be avoided.

backpack mine almost everyday and no issues

+1 on the garbage bag - use heavy duty lawn bags...makes a nicer cushion between your back and the lappy

When i am going job to job, mine takes a beating - and that's in the front seat of the war wagon

NO MAGNETS - it WILL die!
Remember my phone and the magnet - same thing.
A kindred spirit in the highest regard. Appreciate your offer. LOL!

I do know about the magnets. I am only planning on packing it in my tail bag where there are no magnets.

The magnets, while they can pose a risk, are far exaggerated my alot of people. Chances are unless your carrying around a big electromagnet in your pocket it wasn't a magnet that killed your phone.
