Smile Hello everyone! DT400 owner :)

Hi everyone ,

I just found these forums after getting my frist bike. I am totally new to motorcycles. Im even having trouble starting this bike

I just got this bike last night. I was broswing though posting on craigslist and found this beauty for sale. Its a very very well kept Yamaha DR400 B 1978

So, i know this is like a totally newb question and im sure many will be reluctant to ask, but I cant seem to start this thing. Im sure im doing something wrong because my friend who started it yesterday did so in one go.

Is there like extensive documentation on this bike somewhere on the net?

Thanks for you help everyone and i hope to post pics soon

Yamaha DT400 eh? Wow! that's really going back. I got busted doing street wheelies on one of them back in 1977! It was a very refined on/off road bike back in the days of air cooled 2-smokes

Congrats and welcome to the forum.

Hurray! I just rode it around the block...slowly :P

I stalled a few times and had to figure out how the gear box is arranged.

Does anyone know where to get info on stuff like that? I have the service manual (man it looks like egyptian papyrus) But nothing on how this thing is arranged.

and my clutch hand is sore...lol

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome

Oh i haven't taken the MSF yet. I am looking for a good place in houston for it that wont break my pocketbook.

I jumped on the bike when i saw it for sale. I figured that i could always go and take the course, but the bike wont be waiting for me.

does it have a title? headlight, tail light? turn signals? horn?

gotta have a title and be registered, and pass a MC safety inspection.

EDIT:

after googling it, it looks like it was made to be on / offroad. just make sure you have all the above parts ^

get the title transfered to your name, get it inspected and registered, then it's ready for the street. ( pending rider, lol )
