Newbie parking question

Ok since I deal with a lot of thefts, the concern of parking my bike has come up. Usually I just ride from the house around and then back again. I don't have a lowjack system yet, but its in the works. My question is do any of you ride and stop off for a bite to eat, or run into Best Buy, or whatever? Am I just being overly paranoid as a new bike owner? I keep hearing never leave your bike out of sight, is this practiced are meet and greets? Just curious, I'm interested in meeting new riders , but not at the expense of having to foot it home . I just have the factory ignition lock as far as anti-theft.

I go to restaurants all the time with my bike, but I don't leave it out of my sight for more than an hour. I heard never leave it at the mall, but I don't see why you would take it to the mall because how are you going to carry the stuff you bought with you. Also I heard not to take it to the movie theater. There are thiefs there, but more importantly too many people fck with your chit.

PS I always carry my helmet with me. I invested too much money in it for some punk to jack it.

I invested in a RoadLok. It is not going to stop a professional thief or a group of them, but it will stop them from just putting in neutral and rolling it away. With a RoadLok, they will have to pick it up and carry it away. There is no way to prevent someone stealing your bike if they really want it, but you want to make it as difficult as possible to get away quickly. IMO, a RoadLok and some type of LoJack system would be the best combination.

no need to worry about meet & greets. no one is gonna mess with a bike surrounded by 20 others. plus the owners are usually close by and ready to kick =)

I park my bike by the front door just about everywhere I go. At Best Buy I park on the sidewalk by the entrance, at the mall if they don't have motorcycle parking I just park it close to the front or sometimes next to the Handicap parking if theres space

problem is if a pro thief targets your bike it is gone. I knew of one group in the 80's who asked everyone they knew where my home-with very secure shop was. well 2 very large not nice dogs in my shop that I let it be known lived there, and I was well armed, never had probs at my home. 93 in Daytona was a whole different deal. pros targeted the N2 racing rig and stole the whole thing.and also stole Henry Degows misspelled sorry, long time Fla. promoter's mint OW1 from his 2nd floor hotel room at the same place our's was taken, there was not a elevator, broke into his room and carried down 2 flights of stairs while he was at dinner.

agreed. never trade the fear of it being stolen for the joy of riding. it's just a bike. get theft and gap insurance and live in peace.

Hmm...if I buy a nice bike:
1) Full Insurance
2) Low Jack (can be compromised by a smart thief, but not easy)
3) calliper lock (no problem for competent thief).
4) Wheel revolution sensor triggered tear gas grenade on a 5 second time delay with a screaming siren (oh, wait is that even legal?)

Thanks for the replies, I'm working with my K9 to stop whining from the backseat as I tear down I-10 so he's more comfortable later on, that way he can watch it for me when I grab a bite to eat

i dont ever park my bike anywhere except a garage or a place where i can see it the entire time (fast food ftw)

it pretty much limits my ability to ride places but i wouldn't have it any other way
