If you are riding a motorcycle on the streets, no matter what size bike, the odds are against you.

But if she keeps her ego in check I don't see how her odds will rise against her.

I bought a 600 ss for my first bike and it was well over 2 years before it went down

And that was some other douches fault at the track...

its all mental, saying everyone who starts on 'non beginner' bike is destined to wad it up in a month is fkn retarded...

Just bc some ppl don't respect the bike doesn't make it a deathwish for everyone

First of all, Hi Linda and welcome to MH.
I tend to agree with the bunch that says getting an older, maybe lower powered bike being the way to go to learn on. Not to say it can't be done on a new 600SS, it all depends on the person. I'd maybe recommend taking the MSF course, using their bikes and see what your getting into before you buy a new bike. Talk with the instructors and see what they think. A little research and soul searching will go along way to making you a safe rider. Riding on the street is no joke and the skills to do so take time to develop. Everybody who rides on the street has close calls (and I mean really close calls) at a minimum. Doesn't matter how good a rider you are. Not trying to scare you but you do have to be prepared. Having a less expensive, less powered entry level bike (in good condition of course) is far less stressfull to learn on. Just my .02. Ride safe

at least 2 close calls per commute are a given

If someone wants to do wheelies, they will...regardless of the size of the bike

And doing wheelies in msf is just being a dumbass...it IS mental...ride like an idiot...end up on the pavement...ride responsibly...end up on the pavement less

It doesn't matter how responsible you ride. It's the other people on the street who aren't looking for you that is the real threat.

If you can't handle your bike in a panic situation, you are going to be on your .

not really, it's not having the motor skills yet........and not knowing how to ride well.

you think people crash only cuz they're being a dumbass....wrong. it's cuz they make mistakes in class that leads to accidents. now add the same mistakes and 100+ hp, monster brakes and "race" geometry and the street.........recipe for disaster.

I'm with RACER X on this one! Much too pretty to risk having her life end too soon. I'm all about reducing one's risk as much as possible. Let's face it bikes are risky. Less risky = less power(esp for beginner) period.
