Did you feel you had enough room in your saddle bags? We are in the market for travel luggage for the bikes. Ken has saddle bags, but needs a tail bag and I really, really want the Nelson Rigg 900 set up. Looks like it would hold a world of stuff...
I had more than enough room! Those JR saddlebags are actually expandable, but I never needed the room. In fact, I feel I packed too much and could have left some stuff at home. I would trade all most of my cotton clothing for synthetic, brought more tools/kits, and brought a tail bag instead of a duffel. I wish I had plexus for the bugs! I'm glad Silverfoxc brought some.

I made it home yesterday! Safe and sound!

I am most proud of my accomplishment of zero tickets! The Gixxer has 2 (so far ), and as of the last 30 miles home last night, the cruiser received one is Sugar Land!

I'll be posting up more photos soooooonnnnzzzz...

Teh GSXR account of our first three day's adventures :

Today was a very good day. Like some good days, it started with yesterday. From our staging point in Bandera, TX, combo heads out to take on the three twisted sisters: Ranch roads 335, 336, and 337, together forming a 100-mile triangle of roller-coaster ups and downs and 15 to 50mph S-curves.

My unlikely cohorts include the Honda Shadow 750 equipped with GPS, and a naked Ninja 650 carrying the photography equipment. Not exactly the speed racer crew but we make good time.

The sisters behind us, we make our way to Carlsbad, NM for the night. Interestingly, on the way there we pass around a custom painted cruiser resembling the Texas flag. As soon as we passed him, he opened up and passed us again. I though this was strange, but we ended up following him another 10 minutes until he slowed and let us by. I stilll don't know what that was about, but I wished we could have gotten pics of his ride.

The first half of today is spent walking through chilly Carlsbad Caverns, a welcome break from the typical 90+ degree days. By noon, we're on the road again. Highway 82 from Artesia to Cloudhaven was unbelievable. Gently ascending to 8,400 ft, the air cooled amid flowing sweepers and inviting corners from the colorful lowlands to the forest land that is home to a ski park part of the year.

Moving along, another wonderful surprise awaits us along highway 152 from I-25 through Hillsboro to Silver City, including the awesome Gila National Forest. 80 miles of non-stop 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 corners, all teamed with distracting views and perilous drop-offs. It was like Neah Bay meets Hurricane Ridge, without traffic (or guardrails). Close encounters with misfortune included the Shadow nearly running out of gas in the middle of the forest, and deer bounding up from the downhill side of an embankment. A helpful passerby, also on a Shadow, helps us out by donating a gallon of gas from his garage, asking only to "pay it forward" in return. All three of us finish our day without incident in Silver City. . . two hours travel from hwy 191, previously known as 666: rumored to deliver three hours of twisty perfection laugh

That's exactly what I mean. UA dries faster, lighter, and when wet, doesn't take away as much body heat as cotton. I liked cotton only for pj's.

I've been on some of those roads. I really like that drive up through Cloudcroft. I hope to be able to do in on the bike one day. Last time through there we stopped at the same General store for coffee and snacks.

Took the kids to Carlsbad a couple of summers ago and we stayed the whole day. The kids didn't want to leave and I didn't really want to either. There was just something majical about the place. Now that they are both over 12 they want to go back and do the guided tours. Going in via the natural entrance is the only way to go. Who wants to ride the boring elevator down.

I can't wait till July. We have about 5 weeks to go before the trip and everyday I get more anxious about it. Probably won't be able to sleep the night before.
