Wreck at 1960 and Humble - Westfield

. I just typed this up and somehow hit my browser back button.

After leaving HAK last night, my friend and I headed about 5 miles down 1960 to Whataburger. After we ate, we were sitting in the parking lot talking. I heard what sounded like a harley revving his engine over and over down at the intersection. We looked and could barely make out what looked like a bike. Then we saw fire. We ran down to the intersection and saw that a truck had rammed into a harley. The bike was almost underneath the front of the truck. Rider was layed out about 10 feet from impact. There were already many people from the parking lot running around frantically. People were yelling to move the rider from the fire. Helmet was near the scene so glad to see he was wearing one. 3 guys made the choice to move the rider alittle further away. I was relieved to hear him wince in pain. At least he was conscious. By this time, the bike was engulfed in flames. Front of truck was on fire. Truck driver jumped in the truck, slammed it in reverse I guess to keep it from blowing up. Someone put out the truck fire with an extinguisher. I wanted to cross 1960, but it was so chaotic at that point...we stayed where we were and called 911. EMTs showed up pretty quick. Weird...the bike tried to restart itself about 2 minutes in, even after being engulfed in flames. I felt alittle bad that I didn't just cross 1960 but I didn't want to make things worse by getting in the way.

Here's a pic just after the truck was moved back. I hope the rider is ok. Was anyone else there?

whoa!

Yeah, that was crazy... I hope that dude makes it. I never thought I'd be relieved to hear a rider screaming in pain, but at least we knew he was alive at that point. Here is a cr8ptastic shot from my phone just before a guy jumped in the truck and spun back to separate it from the bike... "the bike" was a.k.a. fireball at this point. It was engulfed for a while before that engine restart... completely freaky to hear the engine turning over from inside a ball of flames so strong you couldn't even make out what was at the center.

And there was a blue truck that decided to cut us off(couple feet infront of me on the staggered right of the lane, leader on the left) then cut us off again while I was beside him. If I wasn't concerned about the cops and firefighters ahead, and tired from eating I would have pulled over when he caught up to his hussy in the car after the light at the gas station.

Fk u dumbazz.

Ok, back on topic. Hope the biker is doing ok. We didn't see the truck when we passed, and the ambulance had already passed us heading East on 1960.

A Sheriff passed Champ and I as were crossing Cypresswood and 1960, we moved over, I knew we weren't speeding. But we didn't know what happened until now.

Not to excuse for the driver in any way, but (assuming you guys were on the left-most lane, and the driver was on the right-most lane) this is why the leader needs to be on the right half of your lane, so he can more easily be seen by the driver switching over from the right lane. When the leader is on the left half of that lane, it makes it more difficult for a driver on the right lane to see him. Leader needs to position himself so he is in the driver's view.

The driver didn't see him (the leader), then saw him last second. Now his attention is distracted, and focused on the leader, and so he moves over (thinking he's just gonna move in behind the leader), without realizing you were there, too.

Like I said, not to excuse the driver; but I can see why it happened.

In this case he was in a rush.

We were center of three lanes, he was beside us on the left, came behind then to the right, cut me off, pushed the leader to the left.

Got in the left lane, we went behind him for a ways to avoid him going around other cars, then we went back to w me leading and he came over right on me lastly before I looked back and realized I was w Psyclone and he wouldnt stick around if something happened so I cooled it and dropped back.

We were in pretty heavy traffic due to the accident, rolling 45 in a 50.
