Suzuki SP125?

Any thoughts on this bike? I believe it is a 1987. Needs brakes but the current owner says it runs. Thinking this would be a fun bike to ride around on the property with.

The SPs evolved into the DRs. The SP125, especially by today's standards, is a completely unremarkable motorcycle in almost every way, other than it was pretty reliable.

If the price is right, and by that I mean pretty darn cheap, buy it and ride its azz off around your property. Don't expect cutting edge, of course.

Price is effectivly free. Trading a Dell C840 Laptop P4 2ghz 512MB RAM for it. Laptop can't be worth a hundred or two at the top end.

OK, now the guy wants $100 plus the laptop. Supposedly someone offered him $400 for the bike. I went and looked at it and it is pretty rough. Missing almost all the plastics, front fork shields torn, Need new brakes all the way around, front don't work at all. Chain is off. It starts right up and seems to run fine. Both tires flat.
Is this thing even worth $400?

That's what I figure as well. I wrote this back to him;

"
I looked up all the parts necessary to get the bike back in running shape (so it is safe) and it would cost about $500.
Brakes front and rear, shock seals, wheel bearings, chain, possibly sprockets, filters, fluids, and hoses all around, tires/tubes, guards/covers.
That bike is not worth $400 cash with all that is missing/wrong with it especially given that it is 23 years old and no way of knowing how many miles are on it. The SP125 is a wholly unremarkable bike so its not like you have a rare or special bike.

I will still trade you the laptop straight across for it. Did the guy who offered you $400 actually look at it? If it was mobile and rideable maybe, but you got no chain, flat tires and no brakes...
