The R6 is going to be more reliable and last longer. However, An R6's powerband is up high. (not sure on the 636) which can bother some for around town driving.

Haven't had it long, but 636 seems to be doing me just fine when I'm not running it into the ground

Can't believe no one's said it yet...but have you sat on either one? Go sit on both bikes and find the one that's most comfortable to you. I don't know a whole lot about bikes, but Yamaha's tend to have a more aggressive stance, making it uncomfortable for some riders.

So far though the people that I've talked to that have the 636s love them for the most part.

He's obviously afraid of the 0.01% chance the trans. will fail. I absolutely love everything about my bike except the fat tailsection. It turns in a bit slower stock than say a 06+ R6, but it's very stable, with plenty of power for a 600. Found it to be the cheapest and most comfortable as well.

I will say I've toyed with the idea of a 636... I own an 03 R6... however, the R6 does everything I need it to, AND... the parts for them are PLENTIFUL since they've been made from 03 through 09... if I ever happen to go down, I'll have a ton of used parts out there to select from. There's got to be a reason why they still make the R6S (same as my 03 R6) and sell plenty of them.

I like the 05 636 due to the looks though, haha. *shrug*
