Thanks ED, I knew all of that before my accident. I am actually set up pretty good. I have great benefits. I have short and long term disability, healthcare and accidental death and dismemberment. I feel sorry for other people that are not fortunant to have good coverage. Some people are ignorant to the facts. Lord help them if they get hurt. Take a look at this Walter guy...no health insurance..in the hospital for a month and now in a rehab for who knows when. My hospital bill for my 2 week stay in Arkansas was $250,000.00. My helicopter ride from the scene to the hospital 35 miles away was $8400.00. Flight from AR to Houston, TX was $1900.00. Memorial Herman hospital stay was $260,000.00. TIRR Rehab stay was $19,000 for 10 days the first time and $56,000.00 for a month stay. Now these were just the hospital charges. I have another $200,000.00 in doctor and surgery charges and I am not done yet! I have another surgery coming up next month. Before this is all said and done, I am going to be worth well over a million bucks to the Drs lol. I forgot to mention my medications which are about $260.00 a month and that is with insurance! No wonder no one wants to insure a motorcyclist huh!

more don't want to own up to being a responsibe motorcyclist. to young or immature to realize the potential ramifications of having and accident. i would bet prolly 40% or more people on this board don't have medical coverage.

and if they do, prolly haven't made sure they are covered in case of a bike accident (which you can be discriminated against) vs a reg. car accident. :eh:

Full coverage is the only way to ride....if you can't afford it you can't afford to ride...not trying to be an just telling it how it is.

full coverage doesn't necesarrily have medical coverage.........better ask your agent.

and my bikes only have lia. , why, they're both worth less then $3k, and ins. on my VFR is close to $1k a yr........not worth it. had theft until recently, decided neither are really very "desirable" to thieves IMO.

Ive got my benifits maxed out now since we found out we were pregnant, but even before, when I had my accident, my medical bills were nearly 35,000 and I only paid like 20 bux in prescriptions and 750 for my deductible.

Yep, my trip to the ER from my wreck at TWS (Texas World Speedway) was not cheap but Insurance covered most of it and, that was just for a little bump on the head and some bruises.

I am looking into additional coverage before i get out there to race and push it a little harder. Sorting those things out this year.

I broke my leg in 3 places back in 98 on my RM250 with no health ins. and it cost me a fortune for surgery.I have pretty good coverage through the railroad plus an additional disability policy and job insurance through the union. I made sure if I get hurt again I'm covered (as long as its not self inflicted or an act of war)regardless of what activity I'm involved in.

So, if you have $75,000 in medical bills, and you get a settlement for $100,000 (because that was the “per person” coverage on the other vehicle's policy), your own health insurance company can legally take $75,000 from your settlement. After 33% goes to your attorney, you are left with just over $16,000. Does that sound like reasonable compensation for getting run over?

True, but in the state of TX there is also a stipulation that you have to pay the ins a percentage (not 100%) ONLY IF YOU ARE "MADE WHOLE".

So, if you are permanantly screwed up, legally you don't owe the health ins anything. This was the case w/me anyway.

this sucks it seems like us the hard working tax paying high insurance paying citezens are always getting screwed by insurance sharks. something has to be done.I dont know about yall but If I pay high rates I want to be covered fully other wise I can just put the money that I pay for insurance, away in a accident savings acct Id probably be better off.and if we all did that insurance companys would hopefully change policies just a far fetched thought.

insurance=thieves... when you dont need them, "They're there for you!" but when hits the fan where are their comforting words of, "We'll take care of it." Insurance, you're if you got it, you're if you dont!
