You all realize industrial earthmovers/cranes etc use electric motors to move/operate right? No need for a transmission; supply more power get more torque. Plus its so much lighter in weight and less impact devices to wear out, and one continuous spin without the slowing between each piston pulsation. Diesel engines are just operated to supply power for the electric motors.

There was an electric lemans cars built w a turbine on one side of the skirt, batteries on the other. It was parked after trial laps.

and electrical power is very kewl.

Coming from the electric motor industry (oil field), electric motors provide instant torque from ZERO rpm. They can go to full torque and not so much as spin 1/10,000th of an inch. Lots of energy in those things.
