First TMGP experience

first I want to thank Moe and Team WAR for letting me ride. First time on the bike and at that track. The bike was slower than most, and def slower than what I am used too. Practice- I crashed. tucked the front in turn 3. Came in and checked the tire pressure they were at 13 psi. WTF??? So I asked whats these things supposed to be set at. yeah thats what everyone said. So i set it at 20-20 and left it alone.

My first mistake was trying to keep up with the faster bikes. There were bikes out there that were clearly faster than i. After a decent start I am in the pack then I crash in two that one just got away from me. Then a couple laps later I get black flagged. The dang transponder flew off! MOE I thought you duck taped that thing?

So obviously I lost some laps there. Went back out. Again tucked the front in T3. This time as i was saving it I gett-boned from another bike and we both go down. He ad a go-pro camera so maybe I can get proof.

After an hour my knees were killing me and I had to come in. My second stint was fine minus a few off-road excursions. Can you believe they woldnt let me cut across the grass in the chicane ne more? I told them it was the only way i could stay with people on the straight. I did have some fun with someone, either a bipolar rider or hotnanas. I was behind him in the chicane and instead of flicking the bike back to the left i cut str8 across the grass and pulled up next to him on the straight. I guess we were playing chicken as far as whos going to brake first. I think I won!

All in all a few bruises, a sprained knee and a podium finish and I am now hooked on mini's too!

Way to go Dean! Glad to see you out there. Crashing can be fun huh?

That was me...i tried the Bi-Polar asslap on you.

You braked, I passed, I was way hot. Went straight into the grass. I guess you pitted soon after, cuz I couldn't find you on the track again.

Ya, I hope broom posts that video. Looked like it would make a nice clip.

crashing fun? he-llllll no! i sprained my knee in my first crash during practice and suffered the while day and still today bc of it. the bike was not very well set up and my first time on a mini im glad only 3 or 4 crashes T3 kept getting me. I think I was leaning back and pulling on the bars too much. kept tucking the front. that left before the str8 was a tricky one too. oh well maybe ill get better next time. I think i ran a 53 which is slow but that bike I was on was really slow LOL I mean really slow. the only bikes I could pass on the strights were the lil mini with blue x on them

man, Moe's brother ran me off the track in the hairpin and I crashed...I was dragging knee on the track with my tires in the grass...that didn't go very well. I turned the shifter lever into a suicide shifter.

Thats the best reason to race the mini's.
You learn how body positioning effects handling and most of the times a wreck is only a slight delay

Dean,

Glad you enjoyed your first TMGP experience. The bike is actually setup very nicely, I have done absolutely nothing to the bike since I bought it from Henry (Que Paso Racing, back in 2007). I believe they actually won the championship that year.

Your just coming off of a 120 HP shod GSXR 600, to a 8.5 HP XR 100. It feels like that.
Not to mention from Brembo's to "Dumb Brakes"

Your 53 is very impressive. Most F7 Novice racers ride in the 51-55s their first season. You did good

Hopefully I'll be able to drag you out to some more events this year. Its great training for the big bikes, with no BS, and easy on the wallet.

you kept coming by me on the straights I was behind you going into the chicane and knew I could get a run if i cut through the grass. LOL So I did. Pulled up next to you and shook my head like not this time. HAHA yeah we both went in hot.

I lost count too! LOL That was only in my first stint, I got better and didnt crash the rest of the day. nothing like being on a bike going in hot and finding out you dont have brakes. or dumb brakes (disc brakes).

I managed only to run out of gas in my other 2 sessions. he moe thought that thing could go 2 n half hours on a tank? We filled up at about 2 n half and then ran out with 15 minutes left.

No worries, not sure if you got the horrible head shake that i got too but i though i was gonna eat it. I didnt crash but did have a little detour in the chicane. I think i almost crashed in every corner at somepoint during the day. Oh and not to mention our awesome brakes that were non-existant, at the end of the day we were down to metal on metal. It sure made for some interesting corners. It was good seeing you out there Dean. I had loads of fun waving at you every time I passed you. Next time be prepared to get stuffed I was being nice this time around.
