Obviously the possible negative consequences of theft aren't high enough to prevent people trying. A couple of bike theifs end up dead............at least some of them will reconsider their profession. its a win-win for everyone.

someone actually broke into my truck on saturday morning sometime and stole my cd player if i wasn't such a heavy sleeper and realized why the dog was barking i would of gone out there pistol in hand! but again i'm a heavy sleeper and didn't wake up:( now i'm without any music in my truck.

and yes if i came out and the bike was on my property and a thief was trying to steal it, YES their would be one less person in the world!

+1

I would have no conscience issues at all about shooting a thief....I would make sure I killed that though because if he lives, he will likely come back to kill you.

One less thief IS a good thing...

I have insurance on the bike. I dont think I would without feeling threatened. It isnt worth the missed time at work and all of the other trips downtown. The parking alone is a PITA.

If I walk outside and see someone trying to steal my bike, then you have 2 options: get on the ground on your own free will and beg for your life while we wait for the cops, or I put you on the ground. Escaping is not an option. You're not getting a second chance at my bike, or anyone else's afterwards.

I'd shoot. i dont see a thief as having the same right to live as a responsible human being does. get rid of thieves and i don't have to spend as much on theft insurance.

steal my bike, my truck, a helmet... i don't give a . theft is theft. anyone know the dollar limit on theft of an item to be able to shoot them?

unfortunately in tx you can't blast someone over "easily replaceable property" which means if the bikes insured.
however, if you look at the joe horn case...

in places like alaska deadly force can be used to prevent snowmobile thefts out in the boonies. the reason being if someone is stranded (and therefore freezes to death) b/c his ride is stolen, deadly force is his only life saving measure.

but if the consequence of having your ride stolen is no transpo to your job, i'd say blast away and say the maggot was reaching for a weapon

you got the exact law on that "easily replaceable property" deal. i dunno bout you, but my insurance has a deductible which is not exactly pennies and nickels.

From my understanding you have the right to use lethal force to protect your property when you believe that it is the only viable means to recover that property, or something along those lines.

you cap a maggot for stealing a bike that has a $500 deduct. i hop you have a great lawyer on retainer.

if someone is on my property and i believe they wish to do harm to me, i will defend myself and my property with lethal force and chances are I won't have any trouble about it.

as far as i know... all thieves carry guns. shoot first, realize he didn't have a gun but you shot him anyway and don't feel bad because he tried to steal my bike later
