Rode in the rain last nite...

I went to work last nite (1pm-9pm) on my bike cuz the weather man said 20% rain. , did it rain last nite! Kept watching the radar and it looked like it wasn't gonna let up. Called the SO and she was out drinking with her friends so no luck. I didn't want to leave my bike at work so I went for it about 930pm. I drove from Pasadena to the Heights. 225, 610, & I-10. It wasn't as bad as I thought.

I had my mesh jacket on so I got a windbreaker out of my locker and put it over the jacket. Put my tankbag in a garbage bag and off i went. The rain was pelting @ me like crazy. I averaged abt 60 mph but there were time when I slowed down to 55 because the rain was bad. going over the 610 bridge was scary. wet road and strong wind made for a scary ride. Don't pass an 18 wheeler close on the rain cuz it gonna soaked you. I took it easy on the curves and had no problem with traction. The rain on the shield wasn't much of a problem, the wind pushed it off any way. Every now and then I just use my hand to wipe it off. My scorpion helmet didn't fog up at all.

I was afraid the water may get into my air intake cuz I took off my vertical stacks on it but it seemed to do ok. I made it home without any incident and i was soaking wet from head to toe. I'm glad that I can ride in the rain but it wasn't much fun.

i don't mind it too much if it's warm out when i get stuck in it.. don't get me wrong i'd rather not be in it but my commute to work is mostly all non-highway roads to it's not as scray either.

the biggest thing is other people seeing you when it's really coming down

saw a guy riding with no gear last night around 230am on the highway, a truck almost rear ended him but swerved into a van. who ever was on that bike was going wayyyy too slow on the highway (40mph) he should of stayed on the feeder if he was going to ride that slow, especially on a friday night with all the drunk drivers getting out the clubs

Dude, same here, I was coming to stop light with the clutch held in, not even pressing the breaks, and I was doing maybe 10 or 15mph, and out of no where my rear tire starts to fish tail, it was freaking scary. I put my feet out to try to slow down and maybe keep the bike up right in case it fell over, but luckily nothing happened, so after that, no more riding in the rain for me lol

riding in the rain is not that bad. visibility is the main thing. aside from that, just remember that the street is not a racetrack, and a wet street is even less of a racetrack.
you can use a finger or your palm to squeegee water off of your visor. find a prominent seam in your left glove that you can quickly and easily wipe across your visor.
it's a temporary fix, but it can be a game changer.
another tip i have is that if the rain isnt too heavy and you want to clear your visor, turn your head slowly from side to side, letting the water get blown off of your visor. look ahead the whole time.

rain isnt that bad after the first several times.
, i loooove me some rain in the sun. when it's warm outside and the rain is cool it just doesnt get any better than that.

Rain isn't that bad(its kind of fun actually)

Just as a precaution if it hasn't rained in a while pull over for 10 minutes or so and let the oil on the roads wash off.

Get a glove w a suede palm grip; cleans the lense without scratching and works as good as a wiper insert.

If in a group riding in the rain and on the freeway; take a dominating role and shoot over to the fast lane so you dont have to worry about traffic coming on/off; better to pizz off some peeps having to go around you in a straight vs fighting side swiping.

Wear good foot protection(waterproof 80 bux hightop from Academy or decent riding boot.) Always carry ziplock bags for your phone and wallet.

Then, enjoy!
