QUOTE=lisiecki1;1932600]define "near" the plate....is it up to the officers discretion what can be considered near?[/QUOTE]

Thats what is unclear. The "rear" of the motorcycle, and "near" the license plate. I am trying to avoid the hassle of going to court, where i will probably lose since it is A&M police department, while not having to make my bike look like $hit. I just dont understand how some people are awarded a badge and a gun, along with 35-40k a year to wait on people all day to leave and issue them a inspection sticker warning.

As long as Texas continues to use a big sticker for motorcycles, I'd say on the swing arm or anywhere on the back half of the bike classifies as "NEAR" the plate. If they would make them the normal size so you can stick them on the plate like most other states, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Otherwise, you have to buy a big flap to mount the sticker directly below the plate. Maybe the state has rights to the inspection mounting plates or something...

Yes, but look at it this way:

When you bought the bike, the inspection sticker was approximately 1" or less below the plate.

Now, let's assume you leave the plate in the same place and move the sticker to the swingarm. Each bike will be a little different, but on my bike, that's about 26" and that's going from the very corner of the plate to the very top back of the swingarm.

That means you have moved the sticker 26 times farther away than it originally was. Try arguing that it's still "near" the plate.j

And again, all of mine are on the swingarm also, but they don't normally hassle us old guys.

I think i might mount mine like azylum has his, on a small sheet metal plate to the right of the lic plate. I really wanna leave it where it is, on the swingarm, but i will be harassed until i graduate. I also don't want to pay any more money to Texas A&M, but they always find a new way to get money from you.

I had mine mounted on the swingarm as well, got pulled over alot and never any hassle by it. The inspection company I went to had no problem sticking it there either...

I wouldn't mount mine under the plate even if I got a ticket for it, its ugly.

Just buy an old bike.

During my first run-in with a cop, he didn't ask for my license nor did I have it inspected. Then again, it was a 30-yr old bike in near pristine condition, so I think he appreciated the obvious.

i put the little plate for the inspection sticker right behind the plate and stuck it there. it's not easily visible but it is permanantly mounted near the plate at the rear

Just put the inspection stick on the back of the plate. The law does not state that it has to be visible from the rear like a plate does. print a copy of the chapter 2 section and keep it with the bike.

while legal, still can/will lead to harassing........

Racer, it also a responsibility of the LEO to KNOW THE LAWS before writing a ticket. If I liked the looks of it not being there it will be worth it to me to hassled about it because I will have a copy of the law for him to read if he wants to cite me.
There is also NO OEM location for an inspection sticker. A dealer puts one on there.

right you are. but they are humans like you and i and don't remember ever facet of the law.

so is it worth you getting stopped , questioned over the look of your inspetion sticker? sure you might/should get outta the ticket, but i bet EVERY bike out there could be ticketed for something (yes even mine ) so if he doesn't get you for the inspection, and you prove him wrong, he'll keep digging. is it worth it?
