Thumbs down Kobe Misano One Piece Leathers

So I had a lil get off this weekend at about 30mph. Maybe less.

Everything would be fine today with myself, except that, upon impact, the middle zipper busted open on my Kobe Misano suit. After the zipper busted, at impact, the suit rolled off my shoulder as I slid on the pavement and I sustained about a 10" x 4" road rash, maybe larger, filled with gravel an asphalt. I would have expected, what Kobe hails as an A+ Quality Race Suit, to handle such a low speed fall. I can only imagine what would have happened had it been T1 at Texas World.

Anyway, I sent an email, with pictures to Kobe when they opened this morning. I was going to hold off on ranting about it, but 6 hours have passed and I have received no acknowledgement of my email OR voicemail message.

Call me impatient, call me whatever, but what I consider, at any more speed, a catastrophic failure of a race suit....I expect a speedy response.

I will keep you posted as to their reply.

I'm sure they will respond. I've seen other suits do the same thing. Ask buddha about his fieldsheer at barber.

Good luck man.
Sucks about the rash.
I would'nt expect much other than a replaced zipper / repaired suit from them though. If that.

This should be a long- thread...

No suit can save you from every possible crash, but, like you, I expect that my suit can survive lower speed crashes -- that's why I buy them. The fundamental idea of wearing leather for protection is predicated upon the idea that a suit can hold together during "THE CRASH", with "THE CRASH" defined as any crash you happen to be having at the moment. (In a perfect world, in some far-off fantasy land, I expect my suit to save me from all crashes, but that's not wholly reasonable, and I get it.)

Roadracing World has had several features on leathers, gloves, boots and helmets, both good and bad, post-crash. They do again this month, with JU's leather's tested in a T8 Willow Springs crash, which is hauling . The Z-Custom suit did its job. I've owned Z Custom in the past and they were as good as they get, BTW. The Spidi, Dainese and Syed suits I have owned and crash tested have also served me well. My latest high speed leather test, in T7 at TWS (Texas World Speedway), was done wearing my faithful Italian Spidi suit. The is seriously rashed, but all stitching and seems are good.

Based on what I hear of your crash, I'd be unhappy with the performance of the Kobe suit myself. Keep us posted on the hunt for satisfaction.

Yeah that's just horrible. I was in Alonzos old beat up A* suit, and went down going quite a bit faster than you were going, and it held up great. I remember sliding on the concrete thinking it was already scuffed to on the left hip, and hoping it wouldn't burn through.

You'll have you're turn. You gotta go faster than 20 mph for it to be considered a crash, though.

I have heard nothing but great things about the Kobe's. Infact, I should be getting my leathers in the next month or so and I was more than likely going to have Pete order me a set of Kobe's.
I am going to have to start doing some research to see if anyone else has had this problem with those suits and seriously reconsider which leathers to buy.
Hope everything heals up soon man............oh, and if you need someone to watch over April while you recover, well you just let me know man!!!!!

I have heard unhappy results from other Kobe owners aswell. ( I cannot recall the forum).
I almost bought a Kobe suit due to the fact they had/have contingency money for racers.
I have also heard of the MOto GP suits falling apart aswell.
Good luck with them and I hope they make things right for you.

Well, I had hear that as well. Wonder if the people you heard that from have been down in them?

I must say, that I had a lowside, bout 60mph and they held up fine. I have no idea why they failed so miserably here. Maybe they are only good for one crash, and if thats the case, then they are overpriced.
