Boots - Which would you buy??

A* SMX Plus for 260.00

or

A* SMX R for 194.00.

Both no tax or shipping.

They will be worn on the street and track which is why I am leaning towards the R's.

I did another search and found Black SMX R's for 176.00, free shipping. I just ordered them. There are a couple of Silver/Black for 169.00.

I own black & red SMX-Ride Smart. They are great boots! I've only done one track day on them, but I wear them for daily riding now that they are broken in. I highly recommend them!

Get the plus's. Much much better protection. I've fone a lot of street and track riding(sliding) in them with no issues other than the soles wearing out.

I would personally spend the extra and get the Plus'
I own the Plus' and have used them track/spirited rides/daily riding
They are super comfortable. I used to ride in just tennis shoes. These boots were broken in after the first hour of wearing them and now I don't feel comy on the bike without them on.
Trying to remember the exact difference between the 2 models. Either way, I love the SMX Plus. I totally forget I have them on sometimes.
Now that I think about it, I don't think the R's have ankle support on the outside of the boot. Talk to Go Ninja Go.......I mean Stop Drap and Roll and ask him about that plastic ankle support. I think it was him that crashed and had the bike land directly on his ankle. No injury and boots came out just fine. If you don't have a hard support there and a bike falls on your ankle in a crash, you are fcuked.
So, there is my $0.02

A* SMX Plus for 260.00

These squeak bad! So if you are gonna use these for everday use I wouldn't get them! It I had it to do over I would go with Sidi instead of Astars!

Wear mine for daily use. As long as you WD40 the pivot points on the ankle protector every month or so, they don't squeak.
I personaly like Sidi boots but went with the A* for two reasons. First, you have to have a rocket science degree to get some of those models on and secondly, if you have a short, fat foot, good luck gettin the sidi's to fit right. Just didn't fit my foot well enough for me to be comfortable with daily use

Whatever you get - make sure it fits. The Sidi and Alpinestar racing boots - too narrow for my feet (normal USA "D" width). The Oxtar / TCX fit me great - so I bought those.

Sidi uses a different foot shape for track boots than they do for their street / touring boots - my touring boots are Sidi, and they fit great.

So make sure you try them on before you buy - or that you can return them. Just like helmets.

OH - and please don't spend three hours in a gear store trying stuff on, taking up time - just to then buy them from some internet non-stocking reseller. That's just tacky.
