I just got mine and love it, I have a 2000, with racetech front and fox shock and few other mods. I came off a SV 1k the 650 is slower but handles better.

Those are the stock forks, most likely it has Race tech springs and valves in there.. not bad stuff.
Scott's are warrantied for life, they overhauled my last one for free!
As far as a front end goes.. a complete gixxer front end on the SV is cool BUT if your just doing track day's you really don't need to spend the money on it unless you are ready to be top 5 competetive.. so just disreguard what I said earlier

1st gens are bullit proof! I've yet to ride a 2nd gen on the track but I doubt I'd have as much fun as I did on the 1st gen.

I purchased mine with 24k and rode the out of it over a 10 months period. Did around 30td's and a bunch of back road riding(tx, nc, va) and man what an all around excellent bike(well setup of course).sold her with 38kish and the new owner is still raving about it

If you grab that thing for around 2k (even 3k if its super nice...on bb at the moment) do it!!!

Easiest bike to go fast on and parts are available for next to nothing should your bars touch the ground.

I've raced the SV for years. Mine were all pretty mod'd, but the engine on my backup bike was stock. No, it won't run on the straights at TWS (Texas World Speedway) with the 600's without some engine work (cams and flat slides would almost do it by themselves).

I personally prefer the GSXR front ends (and have an '03 at the house just in case I get another SV), but the stockers with mods are fine for anyone.

I've got i-4's now, no more SV's except for our Team's Endurance race bike, but I've often considered getting another one just for fun (just have no money for that kind of thing).

You ride an SV much differently than i-4's, engine braking and corner speed is king with the SV. People who don't have very good skills have a hard time riding the SV fast. It also teaches you to be smooth and good with the throttle.

Good all around bike with a large aftermarket and interchangeable parts with the GSXR.

I must say it looks awesome with the fairings!

they always had a unique design with the tubular frame, but the fairings really set it off.

Sooo.... suspension set up and when you taking it out?

i ride an 07 gsxr600 and an 07 sv650. they are VERY different bikes. when i say different, i mean completely different bikes. you will definately learn new things that will switch over to each bike. best sound advice....if you plan on riding both bikes in 1 day, ride the fast bike first. that way you will be comfortable with the higher speed.

and as far as having a gsxr front end to be competitive (if you plan on racing later down the road)....you don't really need it at a novice level. , brandon spradling at Motorcycles Unlimited rode with stock front end with racetech emulators and got podiums on his SV650. Motorcycles Unlimited knows plenty about SV650's....they do all the suspension and work on mine and has gotten me many 1st place wins and several podium finishes this season on my sv650. they know these SV's inside and out, if you do buy it, and decide to come out to a texas trackdays event....i'll help you learn the ways of the twin (or what i know for the matter).
