Woman thrown from motorcycle falls six stories

Woman thrown from motorcycle falls six stories from Bush Turnpike ramp

12:48 PM CDT on Friday, April 17, 2009
By ASHLEIGH REUTER / The Dallas Morning News

A motorcyclist has been accused of reckless driving after his female passenger was thrown from the bike and fell 60 feet from a highway ramp onto a service road.

Lazaro Torres-Perez Leah Sanchez, 20, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, said Sgt. Robert Bernard, of the Texas Department of Public Safety. The hospital said she was in critical condition this afternoon.

On Thursday evening, Sanchez was riding with Lazaro Torres-Perez, 21, of Sanger and heading west on Bush Turnpike when he attempted to pass a vehicle on the one-lane entrance ramp to the Dallas North Tollway, Bernard said.

The bike struck a concrete barrier and Sanchez was thrown from the motorcycle, falling about six stories. Bernard had initially said the woman fell 16 feet.

Sanchez was not wearing a helmet, and Torres-Perez was, Bernard said. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, he said.

Torres-Perez was charged with reckless driving and has since been released on bond, according to a Collin County jail official. His bond information was not immediately available.

Dumbass.
If you can't hack it don't try it. Especially with a passenger.
I wish her luck.

This is one of my biggest fears! Do you ever actually look out and see how high you are when you are on interchanges such as the ones at BW8 and I45? One wrong move and your superman for 3 seconds..........

I hope she makes it. I see alot of inexperienced, misinformed people getting bikes right now...

What does everyone think about high interchanges?

DUDE! this past week, i was picking up my daughter from daycare, dude pulls up on a big cc scooter, w/ a 8-9 y.o. on back. dude's wearing a lid, kids not.

i had to say something, and i told him it was a big ticket for a kid to not have a lid. and that the kid should be wearing the lid vs. him. and he says something to the effect that he lives around the block, which he could have.........but still.

scary part, i ASSUME he was there to p/u another kid...........

i feel you... when I'm taking those long raised sweeping ramps... I am always careful. To take a spill would either be superman or the SUV flying behind that doesn't look ahead and it would be too late. Not paranoid... but i really try to not push it on those parts aggressively at all.
