Guitar Man-1, Bird-Mirror?

Riding through the forest sunday and had a close encounter with a flock of crows. I rode through them and one ended up doing this. Took the left mirror right off the bike like someone hit it with a baseball bat. When the mirror detached it hit me in the shoulder like someone punched me. Stung a little, but no bruising or marks. The bird was deflected away from me. No guts or feathers or anything like that.

Now the rest of the story.

The birds took flight when I was almost on top of them. And could they fly the other way? NO! They had to fly towards me. Anyway I was in a long right hand sweeper. I was able to brake a little, so I'm sure that lessened the damage. I may have hit the bird at about 80. I don't really know because I was looking at the road the whole time. I could'nt dodge them (wreck) and I knew I was going to hit one of them (about six). So I just maintained my line and tucked down as far as I could possibly go and went through them. The funny thing is that was one of those senarios that I've played out in my mind and what I would do if I ever encountered that type of situation. I feel that I did pretty good.

I had a sparrow try and play kamakazi with my forehead about two miles later. Probably missed the top of my helmet by a couple of inches.

Quit washing your gear in birdseed and this won't be a problem.

We almost hit a big buzzard once on 3090. It was frakin huge - I thought it was gonna mess up my 'wing, but we managed to not collide. It was an amazing moment, and I'm really happy of the outcome.

You did well keeping your wits about you; I deeply admire you for that. Lesson learned - I should play these scenarios more.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Gary (Dudewrhsmybike) and I almost had some encounters with some birds last year on the hill country ride. I had one fly at my head from the side and turned off at the last second. Gary had three I think it was almost hit him. That place was a buffet dinner with all the road kill.
