i didn't have the steel wool stuff. I just wrapped the packing tightly but loosely around the baffle.

You sure you used the right length rivits? I didn't realize at first not only do they come in different sizes but lengths as well. the first pack i bought was medium and the moved around too much in the holes. I bought the shorts the next day and they worked perfect, better than the rivets that we put in there last time that were starting to rattle and move after 12k miles

explain, mechanical baffles. The construction of the exhaust is that such it dampens the exhaust by the construction not by a packing, louvers and vents in the central pipe to the outside shell does the job instead of packing.

Lil late for this now, but this is pretty much exactly what I did. minus the RTV sealant. I will be pulling mine apart again soon to refinish the CF so I will do the sealant then.
