Bikes have always got the HOV lane free. The only thing this does is put more people in the HOV lane making the whole idea behind the HOV lane (a reward to those that conserve) pointless. Just another way for HCTRA to make more money they don't need.

Honestly, I think before long they won't even be HOV lanes anymore, just EZ lanes. And they all will cost money to anyone that wants to use them. HCTRA is supposed to get smaller and dissolve itself once it is no longer needed but they just continue to grow instead.

Is this seriously what my tax dollers is spent on?
About the HOV.... Drive down the HOV on 59N, look how much space they WASTED on the 1 lane HOV. It takes up 3 1/2 lanes! Why not add another lane to each side?? It's a waste of money and space, they have fulltime maintenance crews constantly blocking or slowing the traffic down in there. Waste of my hard earned money!

Ya it's a waste of my hard heard money too!

But for real, you have a point. Big waste of space!

but eve if you add another lane each side, thats two extra lanes but you'll still need 2 more lanes for the break down lane or what ever its called... so that will be 4 lanes then..

*if i am understanding you correctly*

i like the idea of having a HOV lane... but letting people pay so they can use it is dumb. people carpooling should get rewarded by being able to use the HOV and get to work faster.

those "extra lanes" are for cops to sit there and do nothing

I think this is good since Katy was going to charge everyone to use the lanes

The Hov lane has to be wide enough for two buses to pass one another n case one breaks down, happens frequently, if it wasn't as wide a breakdown would completely block the entire thing. That would really suck donkey

I guess doing it the way its done in the rest of the world - where the HOV lane is merely the left lane without concrete walls on both sides, would just make too much sense huh?

Actually, both motorcyclists and car drivers are getting screwed on this one.

Before this "expansion", motorcyclists could ride the HOV lanes anytime they were open. This is actually a federal law.

Now, motorcycles are free ONLY during HOV hours which I believe are 6am-11am and 2pm-8pm Mon thru Fri. At other times, they "may" be charged. We haven't been able to get a straight answer about that so far.

This works out ok for people working conventional work hours, but not for people with unconventional start/end working hours, or people that leave early, run errands, etc. throughout the day.

In addition, the expansion received money from several different entities, one of those being the Federal Government. So, now after using part of our federal taxes to build a road, we're going to sometimes be charged to ride/drive on it.

From what I've seen at the public meetings, they've spent the last few months deciding how they can screw us out of the most money without a lot of people noticing.
