Sometimes paint jobs are not a good sign. Might be because of a crash, new plastics might hint that a crash happened. Engine cover replaced... maybe dropped. Make sure that the rear end is straight, no one likes a crooked . LOL

yes it is ............. but i hope if you are buying an r1 that you have previous experience on a bike.. and i dont mean "i rode a buddies once" R1 is not a beginners bike by anymeans.. check the r1 forum and youll see the death toll for them is really high.. cuz young kids buy them thinking they are king .... and they cant even ride.. i love my r1 and i can ride it... and i aint going to lie ive had it for several months now.. and i still get scared by the power it has... its amazingly fast.. and i wouldnt recommend it to anyone without experience or serious self discpiline.. cuz a fun ride can end up into a long recovery.. why dont you go to the r1-forums.com... and talk to those guys before you consider buying such a powerful machine.. seriously..

$5800 is average RETAIL for that bike. If it is person to person, I would think that $5500 at most would be a good deal, assuming that the bike is in good shape...

Check out this site for going rates for bikes...

It's a bit on the high side, but you say you're getting a bunch of new? gear with it? That might make the difference in the price.
I'd have it checked out at the shop of your choice.

i always say if you like it, then it's worth it. considering condition and all..

"one mans junk is another mans treasure"

i'm sure i paid too much for my R1 but, I love it, it is an awesome machine, very well maintaned and clean as for a 98, now i have soo much money invested with everything that ive done to it aside from what was in it before i got it, I will never get my money out of it, I know this but, I like it and thats all that matters.

with the money that i have put into my 98', I could've already bought and paid for a brand new one and put on some extra goodies.
