ride it responsibly and at the speed limit to enjoy it. there is nice scenery that can't really be seen at 100 mph.

Coachdave loved 3090. He would ride it over and over again- he knew every turn backwards and forwards. He died doing what he loved- we can't ask more for him.

**I think he would be sad if everybody stopped riding the forest because of his death. Now ride in his memory- love it like he loved it.

its a great fun road, but if you ride it like it's a racetrack you are just tempting fate.

The road is in itself a road. It isn't changing but the daily stuff over it, riders and even emotions of the day are what cause the accidents.

There isn't a weekend that goes by we dont see a wreck out there.

Rules are set in the pre ride meetings for safety etc for the ride. If the rules are broken you are making yourself more vunderable to unsafe circumstances.

There was a 30 some page thread(so it seemed) after Tim's passing on that road and the same conclusions were made as were mentioned in the very beginning of the thread.

Wear your gear always, ride to your comfortable limits, ride with the group and ride w people you trust and will be there for you.

If you ride any public road like a race track, you are tempting fate. If you have to hang off and drag knees and use up all the road, you are going too fast. There are too many variables on the street out of your control.

That being said, in coachdaves case that wasn't the issue, from what I am told.

FCK Crabb river rd, FCK 3090, FCK the Dragon, FCK the 3 sisters... the roads not the triplets.... FCK pacific coast highway, FCK the blue ridge parkway...

catch my drift?

It's not the road... its all in how you ride the road

It can be a fun road for sure. I've ridden it several times, just not in the past year or so. And what is a good twisty road without speed? No one goes to ride 3090 with the intentions of sight seeing. There may be some scenery around there but once your on 3090 it seems to make you want to push a little more...

not to mention the tar snakes, barb wire, critters, etc...

Not to rant but I hate seeing RIP threads and rider down threads. It seems there have been more than normal coming from this road.

Please be safe everyone.

With Coach that was not exactly the case. We were right in front of him seeing him in the rearview mirror and one our closests friends right next to him. His motto of never living a rider behind was shown. As much as he knows that road, it was the first curve of the road and the wind just got him since he was the one in the inside lane. We seconds prior took it at alot higher rate of speed then he did and we did fine but the wind pulled. I think in his case the dirt he rolled in was just to close to him. RIP Dave and he was doing what he enjoyed. We had a beautiful ride all that day until that morning. At the accident he was doing better then alot of people I have seen in many many accidents over my entire life. Things just turned for the worse all of the sudden. It sucks to know a great man who preached to EVERYONE to watch that road had to end his life so quick like that. Just need to take in consideration all the normal things before riding whether its the highway, your neighborhood or streets like 3090. Weather, road conditions and more play a role in all out comes where ever you ride.
RIP Coach Dave!

At the risk of being flamed I will say it anyway. And this is in NO WAY directed at Dave. Again, NO WAY directed at Dave.

If you are incapable of chilling on that road, or any road for that matter. In other words, if you are LIKE ME and ride irresponsibly or like to ride fast, the you MUST improve your skills. I dont care how you do it. I know how I do it and I know how all my buddies do it, but that is neither here nor there.

You CAN NOT ride on teh freeways, do a little commuting, weave in and out of traffic, have no track days then expect to haul down 3090. It will happen man.

You can argue with me if you want but I have rode 3090 probably 150 times. 9 times out of 10, if not 100% of the time, the wrecks happen because people cant make the corner.

The bike will make it, but the skill set of teh rider will not allow them to make it. They give up, stand the bike up, look for an escape route, hit the grass, ditch fence, trees etc and fall down. Some get up, some dont.

So, I have also been at 50 some odd riders meeting. I have led some myself, I have listened to others. I have BEGGED people to slow down, I have warned of the dangers and it still happens.

There are 3 solutions in my opinion.

1. Slow WAY down which if you are like me you cant. And even when you think you are going slow enough, I still see people go down. I ahve seen them go down below posted limits.

2. Improve your riding skills.

3. Get off teh streets.

So anyway, I guess there is a thread like this every so often, but nothing changes. Hopefully the misfortunes of others will make believers out of the non.
