I do ride with earplugs and that makes it fine, but sometimes for a short ride or I forget I just hate the ARAI for how noisy it is. It's comfortable though for sure. I really just want to get a quiet helmet I don't care if it has no airflow just want to save my ears 10 years from now.

and hope it's lightweight too I think I'll buy another Shoei next.

I tried on several arai helmets. . .they did not fit my head at all pressure points everywhere. Shoei fit like a glove, tight but no single points of pressure. Thats gonna be my next lid. The arai liner was really soft though. . .really really soft. . . .hmmm reverse engineer the arai stuff to fit the shoei?

Anyways, I always wear earplugs but not sure I noticed the Arai being any quieter than my other helmets

The chin vent seemed to be VERY functional.
The Arai is slightly lighter than my other helmets, but the 100+ miles I wore it today I wasn't "WOWED" and didn't think it was any better than my other helmets

My sunglasses however did fit perfectly with the helmet on.
Not sure how quick I'll be to throwing $75 towards a chrome visor
I hate wearing sunglasses under my helmets.

I'll post up again as I make more observations with it when I ride more this week.

Sweet lid.
I've got a dark smoke visor I could probably be talked out of for a small sum.
Say $25. Not new, but very lightly used.

Well, I got to thinking, yesterday was REALLY fukking windy.
I rode in to work today and it was a bit windy but I began to notice how quiet it really is compared to my other lids. When I got to work and cleaned off the lid, I noticed I had some vents open, I closed them up and will see how it feels on the ride home. I can tell you this, the chin vent works like nothing else I've seen on any other helmet I've owned. However, I didn't keep it open cause all the extra air flow makes my eyes water.

I like them because they are not that dark. If you get caught in the dark you can still see. I screwed up my last one in less then a week. The first time I wiped it down it was ruined. It was a Suomy lens. I can tell you the Shoei Iridium is a lot tougher than the Suomy one. I used a soft towel too. Its the inside that scratches.

Gary, it's a race helmet made to flow air so it's always gonna be a bit noisy. Closing the mouthpiece and the vents on the visor quiets it a lot though. My iridium shield has held up quite well too.

Bad lid you got there mang. I'm glad I went with the rx-7 corsair. It gets a bit noisy but like others have said, ear plugs make a big difference. You fuggin stole that helmet!!! I paid so so so so much more. Hope you like it.

Gary you got a good deal on that lid for sure....but yeah, Arai helmets are loud as , the visor mechanisms suck and they leak wind like a . I had an Rx7 a few years ago and sold it, I bought it new for $475 and sold it for $300 just to get rid of it. My old Shoei Rf900 was a much better helmet. Now I have an RF1000 and its the perfect helmet....
(although the venting system is a joke and does cause an annoying whistle inside, even when closed).

How do you compare the RF1000 to the Arai?... other than mentioned.

Whether the Arai is noisy or not, if you ever crash you'll LOVE it. Great protection.

Much of the wind noise comes - I'll bet - from the neck. Try a scarf / bandanna around your neck so that it seals the part beluw your ears to the helmet liner better. ALSO - try another (thicker) set of cheekpads....if you have a lean build / not-fat face, thicker pads may seal better, too.

Arai has four head shapes, so chances are one will fit you. Profile is long oval, and I forget which of the others is round, relazed oval, or standard oval.

Arai faceshield mechanisms don't suck - the plastic panel over the hinge heeps the shield from popping off as you slide along on the side of your head.

Yea - I wear an Arai.

But I'm not pimping them only - Another great helmet is the Suomy. If you have a pretty round head. Truly luxurious (sp?) interior (but not removable?), really light, excellent graphics - and the graphics are awesome. Don't know about the noise. But their protection numbers (I look these things up on the DoT website) - The Best. For road riding speeds, the Suomy is excellent.

Speaking of noise - wear earplugs. Every time.

I don't ride without em.
BTW, after more seat time with this helmet, I absolutely LOVE it.
Wish I would have owned one much sooner.

The air was pretty hot on Monday and the chin vent came in handy.
That is the only helmet I have owned that lets air actually flow through it.
