I'm reminded of a small ride a few of us went on at the beginning of the year. I believe it was me, CDill, PhillyFresh and Coach Dave. We were taking the back route to Yankees and big ol' Dave on his comfy cruiser managed to run out of gas. He discovered later that, yes, he actually had a gas gauge which led to even more ribbing. Such a good ride and a great man.

And how about the New Year's freeze ride. Even with our polar bear levels of built in insulation, Dave and I still froze to death.

Since I can't fit the WHOLE thing as my signature, I'll post my edited poem here...
R.I.P. Coach Dave - A more worthy person would be hard to find!

Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the gentle winds that blow,
I am the perfect corner bow.
I am sunlight on dappled trees,
I am the puck beneath your knees.
When you ride in forest's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of bikes and gears all taking flight.
It's okay, it will be alright...
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...

- Mary Frye (Sappily Edited by Toni S.)

You will be missed but never forgotten,

A story about the big guy.

This morning started out mostly as usual get out of bed, walk the dogs, shower and get ready for my day. But today was very different as I woke I really wasn’t excited about today’s flower ride since the recent fight with my girlfriend still fresh on my mind from the night before. As I pulled out of the drive I still had second thoughts of turning back and calling it a day but the further down the rode I got I kept thinking about the previous weekend and the hours me and coach spent joking around, laughing, and exploring for some pretty scenery (and boy did we find it, just look at some of these pictures) what honestly kept me rolling on was the knowing it would be a repeat weekend.

From the second I pulled in to the meet spot I was greeted with smiling faces and the friendliness that I have grown to like about every one I meet from this forum. We all stand around sipping coffee and telling stories from the nights before and laughing at coaches version of happy birth day he sang to his wife last night . After the many laughs I quickly started to loosen up and kinda got excited to ride. And before you knew it we were on our way and I was wearing an ear to ear grin under my helmet just thinking about new roads and the beauty of spring time sights.

A short time later standing off a tattered country road taking in the beautiful sights of bluebonnets and smells of the infamous fields we found just a week earlier. I was knee deep in flowers with my camera and started snapping shots as coach is along with me in the middle of the field making jokes that we should hold hands , skip along and sing doo daa. We hung out for a few minuets shared some laughs and made some after ride eating plans and then headed on with the ride.

The next thing I know I’m in sitting in the house after the day has unfolded and decided to grab a bite to eat at the local lake front restaurant. As we begin to eat a performer is setting up his equipment and getting ready to sing when the phone rings and I walk out side to get the update. As soon as I hang up I pick my head up tear rolling from my face staring in to the sunset across the lake I hear the singer belt out “knock, knock, knocking, on heavens door” I stood there teary eyed with a half smile on my face listing to the ballot and replaying all my coach memories thinking you have a sense of humor to send this song to me buddy.

May good be with you and I look forward to seeing you again in the heavens.

Your pal
Andy

no disrespect intended, but right now I do not believe it matters.

Right now it is just time to honor our lost friend. Nothing can change the fact of what has happened. It may come out later.... it may not. Either way it doesnt change anything
