Need some direction, Old vs New

I am looking to get my first bike her soon. I have looked at Ninja 250s, Honda Rebels...so on and so on.

What would be some older bikes, 90s, that would be good to look at?

Reason being is that my wife will want to ride with me and i know that the Ninja 250 does not do well with 2 people.

Check for excesive valve train noise. those gs are know for their oil leaks around the engine case. Sometime they put plain silicone and that's it. i've seen good low mileage motors with their oil passages blocked and heads/cam eaten. beign a low miles bike, there shouldn't be a problem.
GL!

nope.

that GS500 is a good starter tho. i had a 2001 GS500, looked just like that one. good bike, sometimes i wish i hadn't sold it. for $1500 i'd say get the GS (as long as it checks out mechanically) you could always turn around and sell that GS for $2k

i had one a couple yrs ago, when i bought it, it had been sitting in a yard for a while. new battery, cleaned the carbs and fresh oil. ran like a champ. and old honda's are just plain reliable as long as you treat them well.
