if you're talking about the horseshoe.....that should be the LAST turn you should work on. it's the slowest turn at TWS (Texas World Speedway) and you won't gain much through there.

you need to conquer turn 1, then once that is done, go work on turn 7 (gravity bowl).......

conquer the fastest turns first and also the turns that get you TO the fastest turns. that's where you will see the most improvement at ANY track. slow turns like the horseshoe won't do much damage to lap times.

I realize that we're not talking racing and we're supposed to be talking about entry speed into T1 (not necessarily top speed on the front sraight), but because we've already strayed a little off topic, allow me to further the wandering ('cause I'm a "nerd" ).

We had a similar thread last year talking about top speeds on the front straight right before the turn-in point into T1. So last October I wandered down there during the Saturday endurance race and again during some sprints on Sunday, radar gun in tow. I clocked Dane Westby and Ty Howard at 148 mph while running some hellacious lap time. No one was faster than 150 mph.

I drew considerable heat from some who thought the CMRA's radar gun needed to be recalibrated and some who thought I was just plain stoned. Both of these are possible, and respectively.

But I'll make a point to wander back out there and shoot more speeds, and I'll try to get you, Tony.

Bone stock engine, gearing, suspension on the 954 was between 149-155 mph on the speedo when you hit the dip going into turn one. When i went 1down, 1 up it was 164!Couldnt stay on the gas through the dip on stock suspenders. It really depends on the I would have left after hitting the unsettling dip the first time at full clip. If you hit it too far out it will totally screw up your entrance at that speed. Ty and Larry forced me wide there one time a few years back coming up the inside because I blew my line coming through the dip. Barely kept from lowsiding coming around 2..

I turnin at the 2 marker I think and i'm going about 150mph and in the turn I glanced down and read 130mph....that turn is scary though, i almost washed my front end out there one day I think because too much lean angle and not getting off the bike enough, either that or I hit a slick spot.

Turn 1, and turn 7 are the most fun out there, you can go a lot faster than you think in those turns, especially 7.

I take 7 at about 115. I was running 2:04 lap times in level 2, I think I could run a bit faster if I was in 4, because less traffic in my way, everyone would be passing me instead, so I could focus on what I'm doing instead of getting frustrated at the guy infront of me that guns it on his 1000.

the only thing you need to be concerned about is whether or not you top the bike out before diving into t1.

so the answer should be TOP'D OUT lol

I dont know about speed, and I know you sad not racing...and in this vid they arent, but it appears as if they do not let off the gas until AFTER the transition.

PS - I am taking Ty's class on Saturday. I took it at Cresson and now I am going to do it here, at TWS (Texas World Speedway). Look out!

and yes, to conquer turn 1, takes big . follow somebody experienced through turn 1.....you will find the first few times. trust me, he lives there....cuz i see him every now and then through there.

Fixed!

TWS (Texas World Speedway) is still fun on a because there are corners at the end of every straight. You're just a wuss.
