AMA WTF?

So I got my first glimpse of the new AMA series on Sat. I don't want to drop any race details but was wondering if everyone else had the same opinion as I did.

1. The actual AMA commercial just SUCKED ! The announcer's voice over the video was just bad, and the quality was horrible.
2. The sports desk is a joke, I mean come on.
3. I don't like the rolling start.
4. The pace car thing is just odd. I didn't pick up on it at first but John was telling me about it, WTF? How do you know where you are in the pack?
5. The racing wasn't horrible but I wasn't blown away either.

All in all I was pretty disappointed, seems like a huge step backwards!

You need a new profession if that was your video! Seriously, I just think they could have picked a different voice and been a little more in touch with what people like us want to hear... Integrity, Commitment, blah blah sounded like an announcement for summer camp?

I did enjoy seeing some of the CMRA guys on the show! Dustin D. kicked some ! That was cool.

Yeah, we all hate DMG/AMA these days. We've moved on from hating it to trying to find something good about it now.

How 'bout "NASCAR bikes"?

They run big ovals, nose to tail, throttle pinned for 500 miles. Have pit stop drama, drafting battles and fuel strategies just like the cars, only on 2 wheels.
The bikes would be like ZX14's and Busa's but with more horsepower (maybe like 275-300hp).
It would be almost as boring as NASCAR but with better looking machines.!?

Ok NVM.

Its not...

At Oak Hill, Ricky Parker beat Danny Eslick (granted, Parker has been there once or twice)...

At Fontana, Hacking Zemke Cardenas, etc. were running way faster than Parker (pre-race, obviously)... but SOMEHOW Eslick smokes those guys?!?!

Not quite the same thing. Eslick, who is from nearby Oklahoma, used to race with the CMRA in the early 2000s, and has been to OH plenty of times. Eslick also wasn't on his Buell at OH, he was on a Honda 600.

Knowing Eslick has been to OH before just further illustrates what I'm saying... Eslick and Parker were on similar bikes at OH and he (Eslick) was beaten.

At Fontana Parker was mid-pack (qualifying), whereas Eslick was up top (1st or 2nd I think). The main difference was _________.

Kinda like racing your 450 vs. a 600 at TWS (Texas World Speedway), its not a level playing field. I don't see how the DMG thinks that makes racing more "entertaining for the masses".

Eslick told me at OH that his bike needed "a lot more dialing in", and, of course, Ricky Parker said the same exact thing about his bike after Fontana.

AMA has a history of allowing twins an advantage, only to pull that advantage mid-season. It happened over and over again with Ducati in the early and mid-1990s. "Hmmm. Winning everything, are ya? Here, have some ballast and stuff it in your frame!"

I am waiting to see if DMG/AMA is going to make a rule change. Somehow I doubt they will this time since an American bike (well, sort of) is clearly the bike to beat and DMG/AMA (read: Roger Edmondson, since he makes all the decisions, in case you didn't know) probably believes people who watch pro motorcycle roadracing care about that (like NASCAR hicks do).

It depends on who I'm racing, but I hear ya.

Well, I don’t think anyone expected Danny to run up front on the Buell making it a non-issue for DMG/AMA when they developed the rules. I don’t think DMG can keep their hands off the AMA, their proving that every week. (What’s the rain rule?) I think they would truly love to leave the Buell out front to pull in the Harley NASCRAP Hillbilly demographic. However, there are some very reasonable arguments for why they should impose a rule on the Buell for competition sake. I think even the Harley NASCRAP Hillbilly’s can understand that, and still remain a viable fan base.

I will say this though, everyone is talking about it, and guess what.....That is what the DMG wants. If the media stops reporting about it, we stop talking about it, and we don't watch it.......it will drastically change or go away.
