i've heard it's not much different from the older ones a little down on power from the older ones in fact with a little more lower torque. Unless its all about the looks I'd suggest you get the 07 or before. I rode one for a year on the beltway in rush hour commuting and was fine. It'll save a lot of money as you can pick those up for under $3k easy with some shopping almost brand new.

kawi forums are ok, but the best resource is ninja250.com
Be forewarned they are a bunch of old grouches and you ask that question you'll get flamed up the wazzuu! I personally quit them since they are so sour, but the FAQ and posting as a guest occasionally is great for specific info. Tons of posts about the new vs old. Most of them seem to like the new, but its not worth the extra 2k

08 250 here, I personally really really like mine. Waaay more power and torque than I thought I was going to get. I was able to hang with a mustang gt (stock) from a dig, with two different drivers. I am a big dude though, so I was expecting a moped with fairings but I am very pleased with what I got. Went on a 300+ mile trip the other day and had 0 complaints other than being a little high in the rpms cruising on the highway. O ya and a flat tire but that doesn't have to do with it being a 250.

I had 10 hours bike experience before I got my 09 and I am glad I got it. It is a really good beginner bike. It will get up to.

BTW, your going from a 636 to a 250R? That must suck but I guess as long as your riding SOMETHING, and staying safe, its all good

we had a gps in the mustang so it was for sure right at 100. albeit I was wringin it's neck and it was screamin the whole time

Saw you asked about cornering, I think that's the most fun. Since it's pretty light you can sorta throw it around like a dirt bike. It's not the greatest for loong trips but so far I love it on the backroads.

Question though, any particular reason for going from the 600 to the 250? Or are you asking around for a friend or something? I don't think I could make the jump back lol

I would have to ask this too. I went from an ex 500 to my 636 and it was the best trade up i ever did. I could never see myself going back down to a 500 or a 250 unless i was gonna stunt(not happening) or track it and even then i would rather have my 636 on the track. If your looking for a friend that has never ridden before and they are mature i would say get the 500 or the 250. I road my ex's 07 250 and it was alot of fun at the time but now i dont think it would be the same w/o the power the 600's have (i like riding around town in 2nd gear and not 5th all the time lol).

As far as my experience with them, i have never meet someone that did not like or was not happy they bought it. The stats from Kawi. says it has more power than the 2nd Gen ones but i think its about par. Good luck hope you find what u want.
