stolen thread rant

ok, these stolen bike threads are out of control. will u guys/gals please do yourselves favors when storing ur bikes:

1. quit leaving your bike parked in apt complexes - don't chain it up, don't wedge it in between cars, don't leave it under the stairways. just don't leave it there! find a real storage, friend's garage, self storage units, where ever, enclosed and locked up

2. don't take ur bike anywhere that it'll be unattended - movies, mall, shopping, keep it parked up front of parking lots and keep it in sight. it only takes 5 minutes, a pick up truck, and 2 idiots to pick up a bike

3. for the love of , GET LOJACK installed - quit worrying about upgrades like body light kits, slip on, cool stickers, tinted visor, invest first in theft se f@#$in curity!

i absolutely hate reading threads of friends or friends of friends gettin got. use a little more common sense and lock these things up people. times r gettin tough. stealing is only gonna get worse out here. and i'll always help and keep my eyes open for a stolen bike

I feel the same way. Its basically a "no " when someone gets their bike taken from an apartment complex.........yet no one things it'll happen to them.

I live in an apt complex...but apparently the 2 R1s that are relatively close to me are enough of a deterent

Oh and I have full coverage so if they take this one it's just time for a new one

I hear ya man, of the bikes I see in my complex I think I'm the only one that puts a secondary lock on the bike....but it definitely is not going to stop someone from picking up the bike and taking it

i was in an apartment for 2-3 weeks before i moved to my house and after i bought my bike.

i would practically hit the ground running every day when my alarm went off to go see if my bike was still in the parking lot.

*whew*

Seriously??

I understand where you're going with this and you're right about making security a priority, but why don't we include work or school for that matter? +1 on the low jack, but maybe the right kind of insurance would be cheaper. I know mine is. How much is the lo-jack service?

I mean after all, if we can't ride our bikes where we like to go... it kind of defeats the purpose, yes? At least to me.

it's ur bike, park where u wanna. install an alarm or lojack though. it's a GOOD investment. lojack runs from 5 bills to 8, depending on the model u choose. they now have a model that if ur bike moves more than 3 feet they send u a text, email, and call ur cell

Thats bad - I was thinking about getting a pager that would alert me so I could try and make a move on someone lifting it. (Probably not realistic as fast as some of these guys are.)

Is there a service contract (like a monitoring fee), or do you just pay when you need to use it?

WHOOHOO! Finally a happy ending to a stolen bike thread!

From the R1 Forum:

Well guys..i have always said what i would do if i saw this happening...now i know...

The girl im seeing doesnt live in the worst area of town by any means, but that area isnt to far away...was leaving her place at an unexpected 3 am last night....to find....

1 guy in a truck, and another guy trying to get my new 2009 R1 up a ramp....the steering wheel was not locked.

i had just got there as he was mounting the bike...

gentlemen...not to brag...but im 5 10, and 188lbs and a pro MMA fighter...sooo.. i am not an ultra aggresive person out the ring, and honestly i was worried he would drop the bike...so i tried to be cool...
I simply said out loud but politely... " guys, just get outta here and i wont call the cops.."

LUCKILY the kick stand was still down bc he jumped off, but his buddy in the truck started to pull off...so i bolted after them...the guy tried to jump on the back of the truck and lost his footing and fell to the ground..but his buddy didnt STOP!!

The guy was prob 5 9 and your average 165 ish....eminen wanna be...so he starts talking all ghetto...and gets up ready to fight...

So i just go to work...he steps in to wrestle me and grabs my shirt...as most guys do hes facing down...bad idea...1 right uppercut and i break open is mouth..then a very simple calssic left hook follow through....cheek bone goes snap.

i call the cops...and they get there shortly...the guy wanted to press assauly charges, but the cops kinda just patted him on the head and said, " ok we'll get his info.." then took him away.

I chatted with them for a while and made some friends..then left...my bike unharmed!! yay!!!

2009 R1 , 502 miles! I just ordered the Titanium full system low mount ex, power commander with map, and pair valve plates...

Next round will be some underlighting, brake lines, some carbon parts, and fender elim. then wheels...

b1
F1

Me on fight night.... any austin texas riders here?? we need to hook up and ride!

i'm sorry my stolen bike frustrates you. not all things are preventable. you can try, but happens.. go eat some ice cream and make yourself feel better? i don't know what to tell you buddy

however...... on the other hand, those threads can be a good reminder to try and be preventative about these things. It sucks they keep popping up more and more but we don't live in a perfect preventable world now do we?

just my opinion
