Down in T8b(the wall) @ TWS (Texas World Speedway)

Holy ... I'm a sore SOB!!!

Can't believe it finally happened... I went down(hard). After countless trackday event since mid 2001 with LSTD, 2 1/2 season of big bike endurance racing with CMRA, and 1 season with TMGP... I have now experience all aspects of roadracing.

I was setup to ride in the mock race at the end of the day with all the CMRA prov nov studnets that took the CMRA licensing school earlier in the day. The sun was going down, it was getting cooler outside, and the track temp was cooling off. On the second lap of four, my front end washed out from under me just before I apexed T8b(the down hill right hander where the tire wall is).

Normally this had always been one of my favorite turns on the track, and have never had any problems taking the turn "at speed", until today! As I was sliding down the hill towards the tire wall, I was looking up the hill at my bike, sliding with me. I thought, " this sucks". As I hit the grass at the edge of the track, it rolled me around so I could conviently see my landing spot into the tire wall... and then all broke loose.

For some reason, I remember 3 hits... possibly the bike hitting me after I hit the tire wall, being one of the hits??? Once I stopped bouncing around like a soccerball, I instantly came to my knees and started tried to breath again. I'd say for a good 30 to 45 seconds I had the wind knocked out of me... and I tell ya one thing, there's NOTHING worse than no being able to breath.

Once a started breathing again, then the pain came. I stood up as all the prov novs rode by, probably giving me "the finger" for cutting their mock race short, lol. The ambulance got there, throw me on the strecher, and we haeded back to the pits... I was being hard-headed and refused service, and asked to just be dropped off at my truck, and thought I would just drive myself to Katy, and go to the ER there.

Once I got back to the pits, everyone was there to offer a helping hand(THANK YOU!) As I was seating in one of my folding canvus chairs, several people helped load my things(bike, tools, torn up leathers, etc.) As time went on, my body started telling me "Hey stupid, get to the ER... NOW!" I requested someone take me to College Station ER versus drive me home.

Got to the ER, and there were 6 or 7 people in the waiting room. Thought to myself... "Sh*t, this is going to be a long wait!". Went to triage, and was wheelchaired directly to a room after almost passing out.

(Almost to the end.... bryan)

After having 60cc's of blood stolen, two 18 gauge IV's, a 1000cc's of IV fluids, about 12 x-rays, two CT scans, and lots of trash talking to the ER staff... I was released from the hospital. My injuries: possibly two broken ribs(didn't show up in the x-ray, but doesn't mean there aren't broken), AC tear or damage to rotator cuff in my right shoulder, bruised kidney with a little bleeding, grapefruit sized contusion on my left waist-line, jacked-up pinky on my right hand, and football sized contusion on my left thigh that has doubled my thigh diameter since last night.

Just wanted to say thanks to Henry, Stephen P, Julie P, Jeff G, Steve M, Wade P, Scott D, Debra M, Patrick H, John H, Brandon S, Maurice(sp), anybody else I missed, and specially Jerrel D for an interesting ride back to town! =D> Thanks everyone for everything!!! It's a good feeling to see how much support/help is willing to given when the time is needed!!

BTW... the ER doctor wanted to admit me into the hospital for the evening cause she thought that either my pelvis, femur, and/or kidney were bleeding internally, but just not enough to showup on the x-ray and CT scan. That's when the trash talking started, lol.

Glad to see you are able to post Tim, that was one hard fall. I was 4-5 bikes behind you and it was a big WTF when i turned the corner in 8 and saw that bike ploughed into the wall. You were moving by the time I passed by and that was a little relieving at least.
Heal up soon

lost the front end? hmm was it because you just braked to hard or totaly unexpected?. thats one thing i cant get out from the back of my head when im cornering, that the front might not grip for some reason and ill have to stand it up. im using m1's on my bike now and was very happy with them until a month ago when i leaned at an intersection making a left turn and the front tire lost traction without any feedback from the bike. it scared ths outta me cuz i almost layed down but managed to stand it up at the last second. if anyone has any pointers on how to tell if your front might break loose or whats a good tire that normaly doesnt im all ears.
