Positive side (red) should have fuse inline, negative (black) should not.
If all else fails buy new whip you connect to battery, they are only bout six bucks at motorcycle store. Light on charger should be red while charging, turns green when charged and on trickle. I am not positive but the tender is to keep charge up, if problem with battery you need a real battery charger or replace battery. Also could be problem with charging system of bike

Its not the bike, I left the key and lights on since Monday night didn't have any power what so ever when he picked it up. The little lcd for the clock was even off.

i've fully charged a truck battery over about 2 days with my battery tender jr....

you can charge a battery with a tender/maintainer but takes a long time but it sounds like you smoked the battery!

My battery tender instructions said to hook up the red to the positive and the black to the frame.
