Minor Head Injury Turns Fatal

Lots of us have seen the story about Natasha Richardson dying from a minor fall while skiing.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...Story/National

This should be a warning to all of us who have a minor get off on the road or track to get checked out.

true... however due to the modern roadracing helmet design it is very unlikely to get a epidural hematoma so dont be too worried as long as your using a good helmet.

she probably had a predisposition to a problem, not sure what kind but she had a minor fall and then developed a epidural hematoma that crushed her brain. its unusual to develope this kind of a problem from a minor fall such as the stories say she had

There is about 20 minutes of my life unaccounted for due to a snowboarding accident ... ever since then the idea of wearing a helmet has never been a question in my mind.

moral of the story (a sad one) is wear a helmet. Your brain is soft and squishy and trees are not.

RIP to Natasha and my condolences to her family
folks...always wear a helmet whenever there is a possibility for a head injury.
I lost a friend when we were 21 due to a head injury. We were all packing up to leave for a spring break trip and he was jacking around on his skate board in the drive way like he always did. He was a really good at it I might add. But he just happened to take a spill the wrong way and cracked his head pretty good on the pavement. He was unconcious, so we immediately called an ambulance. He remained in a coma for three days before he finally passed away. Lesson is to always wear a helmet if there is danger possible, even if it is as simple as rolling around on a skateboard in your driveway.

< see avatar. helmets are just as necesary skiing as on your bike guys.

another big thing is stay off of trails you dont belong on. i know its not the case in the article as she was on a mellow slope. but people always seem to get in over their heads when they go skiing. every mountain has a map. look at it and keep out of areas you dont belong.
if youve been to one trackday are you going to get in the "expert" group? no. same thing applies on the mountain. stay away from the little black diamonds and terrain parks.

wear your helmets!!

Im leaving to go snowboarding on Sun. I started wearing a helmet last year though. The terrain park is just too dangerous, not to wear one.
