Angry S.E. side heads up!

Everyone keep an eye out for POS thieves trying to take your bike!

So when I ride into my apt complex last night a guy that owns an R1 flags me down asking if anyone messed w/my bike Sunday night. I respond no, and he continues to tell me that his bike was stolen Sunday night and they tried to steal another, newer, R1 in the complex but left it w/the ignition wires hanging down.

He then tells me his bike was recovered and just got dropped off by a tow truck driver b/c the POS thieves either ruined the engine or ran out of gas and then dumped the bike off on the side of Blackhawk. He has wires hanging down from the triple tree, they broke the ignition lock, the brake lever is broken and he said that he seems to have lost all compression (he thinks they didn't know how to work GP shifting and may have done some real damage to the engine), rash on the side, cracked rear fairing

BTW, dude's R1 is parked maybe 15 spaces down from mine

Cliffs:
-POS thieves stole one bike and tried to steal at least 1 more from my apt. complex in Clear Lake/Webster area.
-Bike was recovered but extent of damage is unkown.
-Other bike was left w/wires cut.

MOVE!!!!!!!

Man that sucks. I would get some logging chain and a hilti gun. I would put me a shank about 1 ft in the cement. Lock your up where when they see it, it will be too much of a hassle to try and tak it. GQ, if you want you can keep the bike at my house for a few days if you want. Someone always home or within 1/2 mile. My wife works 1/2 mile from home.

I am riding to work b/c I don't have my car this week so it's just a risk @ night, and I got full coverage so if they do steal it I'll take it as a sign to buy a new one

I really appreciate the offer, but I'm convincing myself that they saw my disk lock and decided it was too much trouble so they moved on...the guy who got his bike stolen didn't have any add'l security measures in place, I normally have mine covered w/the lock on the front rotor sticking out, so it's somewhat of a deterrent.

The worst part is that garages are all really overpriced and there is a loooong waiting list for them too

If you need a hilti drill we can put a lag bolt in the cement and bolt your bike to that. LMK

I chose not to do the "big chain" method b/c I have insurance and b/c I didn't want to have to lug a big chain around w/me

if I parked in the same spot all the time I would...I get the same spot 95% of the time but it's not assigned unless you get a covered parking, and I'm on that waiting list too

I will show you how quick bolt cutters will take care of the chain for you. They cost like 15 bucks at Harbor freight. That disk lock holds the bike down? Im just saying there is now good way to secure a bike outdoors. And from my experience good cable to harder to cut than chain.

YES I know that if they want it bad enough they can throw it in a truck and take it....I may just start parking it sideway and putting the car in front of it.
The chain idea isn't that good an idea at my apts anyways b/c unless you have a covered spot there isn't anything to secure the bike to

Create a minefield around your bike and strategically place them so only you know where they are at. Problem solved.
