This is great news. I imagine the next hurdle is getting on the schedule for a broader vote? Who would be the right people in Austin to contact to encourage getting SB506 on the schedule?

I tell ya, if I did it just after it was passed.. I'd carry a pack full of print-outs of the new law and be handing em out to each and every person that even started to say anything.

If it were to pass I would think they would have commercials or something to help keep some idiot from running us over.

Everyone knows that only the most refined and genteel watch local television. We'd have to put it on the freeway signs between Amber Alerts.

14 Min to Downtown at 7:24
Do not kill motorcyclists
Missing elderly couple in red countach
Do not kill motorcyclists

and so forth...

I was wondering earlier, and I'm not trying to get ahead of myself since it has not been passed yet, but who does the advertising to make people aware of this? The state? AMA? Who? And how will they effectively do it? I like what unleaded buell said

I've done it a lot in Houston, stopped just because didn't want ticket. Had maybe 1 issue like that??? Most of the time they don't care or can't care cause you're gone. It's really easy once you get used to reading cars and the road in a new way

GREAT showing. Not as many as I would have loved to have, but... we won over a few of them...

OK kiddies. This is what I have received:

Quote:
You all did wonderful. The next step is to get the word of support to the whole Senate since the bill will have to go to the floor. The vote was 7-2, with Senators Shapiro and Huffman voting no. I'd appreciate any help you can give with this.
Thank you again!

Huffman was the Senator that protested at the end. She is a newly elected [Dec 2008] through a special election Senator. She has not explained her stance as to why she voted No. From the session - I think it's because she thinks it's a true California-esque fly-by lane split bill. She didn't seem to understand.

Shapiro wasn't present for any of the testimony or explanation.

Time to email EVERYONE as it's GOING TO THE SENATE FLOOR!!!!

and hooray for the bill getting out of comm!!!! hopefully it'll be passed into law soon!!!!!

From the Committee meeting:

59:21
Sen. Wentworth - "May I say that this lane splitting actually works pretty well in San Antonio, already?"

59:35
Sen. Huffman - "May I say that in Harris county the lane splitting does not work well? I am concerned about what/how it is. When you are in traffic in Harris County, in rush hour, I would be very concerned about the responsibility of a driver to worry about a motorcycle rider coming up between the lanes.

don't care if it does become legal I ain't gonna do it, too many on the road now, if they see ya "cutting" line they are gonna go ballistic and start hurting riders and gettin away with it.

but I hope it doesn't pass
