TRC 548.255.

ATTACHMENT OR PRODUCTION OF INSPECTION CERTIFICATE.

(a) An inspection certificate shall be attached to or produced for a vehicle in the manner required by department rule.

(b) The department shall:

(1) require that a certificate for a motorcycle be attached to the rear of the motorcycle near the license plate; and

(2) adopt rules with respect to display of an inspection certificate for a moped.

But granted, it doesn't actually say "visible from the rear"

My inspection sticker is not attached to the bike but it is in the rear near the plate. It's under my back seat.

I know from personal experience about this. My inspection sticker is on the side of my swing-arm. I was pulled over by a DPS officer for no inspection sticker being visible from the rear. He walked up, asked about the inspections sticker, and I told him it was on my swing-arm. He verified I was inspected, then let me know that if it is not visible from the rear, it gives them "probable cause" to pull you over. He then said. "Ok, ride safe, and have a nice day."

The reasoning on whether or not your license plate or inspection sticker is legal depends on the officer that pulls you over, the judge when you go to court and largely whether or not either of them "got any" the night before.

Your bike can be stock and by the book, but that doesn't guarantee anything in this day and age. You can get pulled over for nothing and written up for even less.
