You know that doesn't give you more power, right? Octane rating determines detonation. The only issue w/ running 87 octane gas it it could possibly pre-detonate (ie- pinging). Typically pre-detonation results from old fuel and since 87 is the most used fuel from gas stations, it's usually the freshest. You actually get more power from 87 octane gas than you will higher octane gas as long as you don't have pre-detonation. icon12

Unless that fuel was oxygenated. Then we have a different issue...

lower octane will burn off faster, and ive HEARD from good sources, gives you better short lived performance.

octane grades determine how they "dirty" the gas burns. 93 burns cleaner and is supposed to make your car last longer. ive never seen a comparison where they run the identical engines with the types of gas to see if its true. my guess is that there are too many variables like gas brand, oil weight, air, and RPMs.

It can. But, you should stick to running what the manual tells you to. Probably 90 or above. Just don't waste your money on high octane unless you have a purpose built motor that will benefit from it. There's actually a really good article on the subject that I'll post if I can find it...
