help chris build a new pc

So, refund check will be here soon, and I've been wanting to build a new pc. Thing is, last time I built one was 5 years ago(and its still kicking)

My budget is around 1000 (I'd like to be under of course)

I'm using it primarily for games.

I was looking at at least a amd ath 64 3200+ , 1 gig of ram, a NICE vid card(ie 6800gt or so) a 160 gig hd will do fine.

Any suggestions? Places to buys parts from?

Thanx in advance

A guy I work with plays doom3 online with his computer, pretty much his primary use, he said he doesn't even with using a case anymore, he has a styrophome (sp?) block that he sits all of his components on, heh.

I went to Best Buy and bought one of their E-machine systems for about $300 after all of the rebates. Then went to Microcache & Fry's and bought new vid card and memory. For about $700 total in the system, screams like a bat outta .

It seems like nowadays, it is just cheaper to buy and upgrade, rather than buying everything separately. A few years ago, this wasn't the case but computer prices have just gone way down. Just my .02 Chris.
