2 stroke help

ok, so's i got this 97 yamaha rt180 on the cheap.

1. the trans wont stay in gear, keeps slipping out. and takes forever to find a gear cycling the shifter. The bike has no oil in it at the moment, could that be a culprit, or should it still find it's gears.

2. also, got it to fire up and run for a couple secs. it is stuck WOT. im still fiddling with the ( i think ) idle screw and pop starting it.

3. the douche that sold it to me, didnt tell me the fuel tank had a leak, so while its being temporarily fixed till i get a new one. will a shot of starting fluid hurt the bike?

4. the kickstart doesn't grab, the guy said there is a spring on the inside thats missing and thats why it doesnt work. im gonna order a new kick start gear ( the whole gear and spring assembly ) but will it hurt the bike being run momentarily with it like that?

5. anyone in the clear lake area that knows 2smokes mind setting up a time i can bring this beast by and someone give it the once over? i can offer beer, taco bell, or something of that nature.

i dont think i would use any starting fluid. does the gas need to be premixed or do u have the 2 stroke oil resevoir on the bike? i know a little about 2 strokes. but it whould still shift with or without oil. just dont ride it without it. maybe try rollin the bike back and forth a little when trying to shift.

it will catch a gear now and then, but wont stay in gear. and it takes forever cycling the shifter to even find a gear.

pull off the clutch cover and check it out it could be simple. like on a old honda i got every now and then theere is a bolt that backs out and blocks the shifter teeth and it gets stuckin gear. scared the crapp outta me the first time it did it. who knows maybe you will get lucky

HE DID A JOB. leaking oil from the rt side case, whereit bolts up.

gonna buy some new parts and spruce this beast up so i can kill it and rebuild it for my son.

the good news is, i know it starts and runs

i have always mixed mine at 32:1 but ask the previous owner what he mixed it at and what oil. and see what the book calls for if you have one

i need the book, the old owner said he didnt premix cause it has the injection tank. but i've read that its better to premix, cause if the injection malfunctions, or you forget to check and run dry, youll def. screw up your motor.

32:1 was mostly the consensus on the other boards ive looked at. prolly start with that.

it is just the case cover on prolly the right side. it is just a couple bolts. but you will have to replace the gasket or be with gasket maker to ride it again.

i know wich cover it is im not that retarded. lol.

ive just never taken one apart, aside from my xr50. ill prolly end up replacing alot on this bike, most of the parts are really cheap.

ebay has a barnett clutch kit, and all kinds of goodies for it. only thing ive had trouble finding is the exhaust. if i buy one, i want to go with aftermarket, but i dont know if anyone makes an aftermarket exhaust for it.
