I'd go with the R1. Amazing technology trickle down, I'd bet it snags the title of best 1k of the year.

Oh, and take a look at the new zx6. Supposed to be on the top of the 6's this year.

I love verything bout the R! technology, but I'm not a big fan of the looks. The zx-10 looks awesome and has an awesome engine aswell. I don't think you can really go wrong with either one. If it was me I would get an r1.

Yamaha has not had a good track record with first year R1's;
'02's had rod bearing issues, '04's had rod bearing issues and TPS issues, '07's have had TPS and ECU issues.
The engine in the new R1 is an all new design, me, I'd wait.

On the other hand, the new ZX10 is a phenomanal motorcycle, plus it doesn't look like every other R1 / R6 out there.

My 2 cents, ymmv.

I voted to look at other 1000's. Not that the ones you listed are bad necessarily, but there are a lot of other options. I'd say look at other 600's also. I really like the Triumph 675. And the Speed Triple looks like an awesome bike as well. I could go on.

I love my 07 R1, but it has a lot of patrick goodies on it. I may get him to check on some higher bars for me. I really like the slipper clutch, it made for more fun at MSR. I felt like I could just dive right into ugly corners with ease. thanks to dr. gonzo, of course, who helped me a lot.
come to think of it, I may go back to the stock front sprocket. this thing is on/off and that makes it a little worse. scares the outta me leaving darkies out of corners when I probably have no business doing that.

The R1 is freakin HAWT
The ZX, eh not so much
hmmmm power...
I know personally the new ZX 10 is schweeeeet
the only contact with a newer than 06 model R1, besides assembling and prepping them for K's, has been with an 06. so yea. But that is one sweet ride too.
But I do know they both are amazing bikes with some awesome technology in them.
And they both feel great between my legs, sleek, trim and a feeling of agility.

I would look at the ZX 6 though... my gawd that bike is nice. I rode on the track on Marks 6 and between the driver and the bike that is one bad a$$ . I know the driver is one hellofarider but yea, that bike is HAWT
