Agreed. I like to be able to see the tach, just in case.

when I was racing endurance middleweight superbike I had both speedo and tach off the bike. A few of my teammates complained so we put the tach back on and it slowed them close to 2 seconds a lap at TWS (Texas World Speedway).

I don't look at the temp. It's an itty bitty little display.

I remember watching Doriano Romboni effectively end his racing career after a big crash at Albercete
it isn't quite captured in this clip

afterwards it came to light that he had been so intent on his laptimer that he missed his braking marker at the end of the straight!!

Agreed, not so much needed on a stocker multi-cylinder diesel. If you have cooling problems on your multi-cylinder 4-stroke, you're probably gonna know when it starts losing power or starts to boil over.

But, if you're racing a GP bike, especially in Texas, you'd be well-advised to not only have a temp gauge, but to look at it, too. It's relatively important on 4-stroke water cooled singles in the heat of the summer, as well.

To be honest, I don't know. I purchased the cover before my first trackday.

Actually, I don't even look @ the tach much either. Given enough time, you'll tend to ride more by feel (as you learn the track and your bike). I think there are other things that you could be concentrating on besides your cluster.

There are some good posts above and some BS.

Good luck, bud. If you've yet to do trakdaz, it's a whole new level.

Too late for pix, I'll get ya something soon.

I don't cover anything...i like having the option to look at the speed. I sometimes use it to track my corner speed after making suspension adjustments.

Get a video camera and record your laps... you can see how fast you're going if you're curious.

AND, you can also see what gear/rpm you're in/at and make adjustments if needed.

I just dont look at mine. And I dont have to TRY not to look at it. I just dont. I'm way too busy looking at other things.

I do, however, look at my tach occassionally.

What is a temp. gauge?

Why would you not wanna know how fast you go? That is all rubbish about the speedo. I peek all the time and Im not a nooby. People peek at the lap timer but wont look at the speedo how dumb is that?
