Q about Michelin Pilot Power Race Tire

Why do they make them dual compound (harder in the center) when we only wear out the sides? Street use?

you answered your own question. The PP 2CT is designed for the occasional track day, with a softer compound on the sides for more traction, and a harder compound in the center for longer life.

from the site:

"MotoGP riders have used multi-compound tires for years. Now the Michelin® Power Race® family of supersport tires puts two-compound technology within anyone's reach. A soft rubber mix on the tread shoulders helps deliver extraordinary cornering grip, while a harder compound down the middle helps withstand the forces of hard acceleration and braking.
DOT-approved supersport racing tire
2-Compound Technology lets you choose your tires like a MotoGP rider
Reaches operating temperature quickly
3 front compounds and 3 rear compounds to choose from
2-Compound Technology developed in cooperation with leading MotoGP riders, including former World Champion Nicky Hayden
Semi-slick tread pattern to help maximize the contact patch especially at full lean, and help ensure tread stability. Tread grooves are oriented to evacuate water from the contact patch in damp track conditions."

or

• Power Race Medium: intermediate compound in the center, soft compound on the shoulders.

• Power Race Medium Soft: intermediate compound in the center, extra-soft compound on the shoulders.

• Power Race Soft: soft compound overall; no dual-compound

Ok, I guess I don’t need it, the middle of my tires seem to withstand those forces just fine.
