Hello Everyone...new member 1st question.

I have just registered as a member. Looking forward to meeting new friends and hopefully meet up for a ride.

Just got back into motorcycle late last year. Bought a brand new Blue 2007 Yamaha YZF R1. Broke it in last week with 1026 miles. Changes oil filter to K&N and Oil to Mobil 1 10w40 Fully Synthetic.

Should I take it in to a dealer for full service check??? What have you all done for 1000 miles brake-in?

Thanks

Welcome.

If you bought it brand new, it is/was under warranty still. You should have taken it to a dealers only for that reason.
As far as the switch to synthetic I've heard is not a small move to make until it has few thousand miles under the engine. It seems that it is so slippery that it might prevent for the rings to seat.

Welcome to the Family! Congrats on the purchase and breakin being over whoo hoo!!! Let's ride!

Usually factory warranty doesn't cover maintenance.

However, having the maintenances done at the dealer keeps that information in their records. All the info you need for each check/inspection by mileage is in your owners manual. Any shop can perform said checks. Keep your receipts.

If there is an issue w your bike they are happy to point the finger to the customer first before considering a warranty issue especially if they dont have records for your maintainence.

And I too recommend Motorcycles Unlimited... Keep an eye out for their free maintainence classes so you keep your bike in prestene condition and save yourself much time and money in replacement parts worn prematurely such as chains/sprockets etc.

Also, go get your suspension set up for your size and weight with them. It will make a world of difference to have a bike set up for you, not you coping w a bike set for everyone. 25 bux, 30 minutes or so and you are treated like royalty.

Welcome to MH. Check out our Events section for upcoming rides and meets. Being a new bike, it's sometimes wiser to take it back to the dealership to have your break in oil changed. It's under the warranty.

Welcome.

I have never had the luxury of owning a brand new bike. Whatever I did though, I would make sure that it, in no way, would void my factory warranty. And yea, I'm an Motorcycles Unlimited fan.

Look like Motorcycles Unlimited is the place to go... I got a friend that just got into motorcycling, took the MSF course and bought himself a used 2006 GSXR 600 last week. He is taking his bike there for all he motor works.

I will give Motorcycles Unlimited a call and maybe take it there this weekend...Happy riding!!

Thanks Everyone.
