I ran once, in a car years ago. No speeding ticket, no reckless driving but I DID get caught 2 hours later..........and they went over the car like I was an ax murderer. So the result was, night in jail, impounded my car, lumps on my head by the time I GOT to jail, and tickets for EVERYTHING......exhaust/tires/suspension etc.etc.etc.
That was in California about 1977 :BangHead: Cost: $6500.00

Ok so all this walter attention has brought me to register with the site. For anyone still considering running from the cops in the future, realise that you might be a good rider but not a psychic. your doing 160 or so to gain distance between you and the cop whos topped out at 130. imagine weaving traffic if any at that speed, not only that the people infront of you seeing your headlights will panic and not know wheather to stay in the lane or get the outta your way (they dont teach that in drivers ed..) so some will cut u off at the last second cause they paniced, good luck dodging that..

It is tough to just ask "is it smart to run". I think it depends heavly on the situation. Although it would not be a good idea to run for the average joe, for the professional moto racer that just murdered his family, running from the police might not be a bad decision.

They found the car, parked at a truck stop 2 hours later. Me thinking that okay, I'm safe, climbed in and headed for home and..........didn't get out of the parking lot
So, no ticket for speeding/reckless driving but everything else they could come up with. We were racing on a 2 lane country road, I was in the WRONG lane and the headlights coming AT me were California Highway Patrol. I think it KINDA him off having to run off in the dirt to avoid me so......bumps on my head by the time I got downtown, DESPITE all my protests and denials of being THAT speeding Plymouth Duster.
So, a lesson learned..............I stayed in the right lane from then on.

I use to run all the time. It was fun and a adrenilan rush. Till one night i decided to run and wreaked the bike at over 130 mph. I got away yes. Will I do it again. No, it not worth losing your bike and being in pain for awhile. The worst thing that can happen is that you will go to jail for riding a wheelie in stead of losing your bike. If you get caught after the fact you will lose your bike. So it plain and simple take to ticket and do defensive driving. And still be able to ride. Tha CHain

Ya know in life there are times that you can get lucky. But those lucky chances are really not happening when youre on the bike running. Im one step closer to on my bike and I know that im not going to risk it more by running just because I was speeding. Ya a bike can easily out run the cops, but you cant outrun the radio.

I think it's interesting to hear all the comments on running from from the law it's always a bad thing. But most people young or old at some point have been guilty of evading the police even if it was just the decession to try and duck and hide before the po po gets turned around. I have been guilty myself of the hide and seek with the po po but I have also done the smarter thing witnessed by most of Patrics rideing group, and later harrassed by numerous riders in that group for being stopped by forest park ranger driving an SUV. But it was worth the small ticket and the harrasment to get ride another day.

I guess they have not started teaching students how to hold their lines in drivers education yet?
