That was one of the SBSW Rides. I remember that quite well...I froze my off. I continued the ride cause everyone else lived the the area and went home and I drove too far to not ride. I rode the area and the rain never let up. It just got worse. It was 49-50 degs and my hands were frozen solid and I was soaking wet. I usually didn't mind rain but the coldness made it miserable.

I also met you again on Sasha's Ride this year. Even played with your kiddo.

They were fine, just emotionally messed up. They didn't even go to the hospital. They had a lot of guilt hanging over their heads. They thought I was dead. At first, they didn't even know what they had hit. The airbags popped them in the face and then they got out, discovered the bike and ran looking for me. It was 2 guys in their mid 20's. They were going over to a friends house. The driver was from Tennesse and probably didn't know where he was going and looking more for the turn than worring about what was coming down the road in the opposite direction. He then cut over into my lane to turn into the driveway instead of passing it up. It was a common mistake that we make when we are lost sometimes you know. It is like when you're driving along and you are looking for the turn and you are like ! there it is and you just go for it. One good thing is that the guy had gotten a new insurance policy the day before and maxed it out the next day. While his other policy was still in affect. Each policy had 25k limits on them. So I get the 50k but it isn't enough to cover my lifelong care. But what can you do? I can be sue happy and give it to a lawyer or I can take the max payouts for each policy. The thing is that these guys are young and they don't own jack . It isn't like a semi hit me with a multi-million dollar policy. I am better off than most in the settlement issue cause if I hit you in my car with my Texas minimal limits of liability, you get the whole wopping 22K. It is just the way insurance works unfortunantly. You should get enough insurance to cover your based off of what your net worth is.

I'm not meaning to knock on ya, but it sounds to me like you're settling. It's not like you broke a leg and are going to have a permanent limp. Dude, you are taking a severe hit to your quality of living. I'm not sue-happy at all but I think your best interest would be served by getting an attorney and taking the insurance company to court. I hate that people have to resort that because it hits me in the pocket book, too. I'd be more concerned, however, for those who have so much taken from them - like you. Just my 2¢

well, these guy's had a 25k policy. they maxed that. the ins. is no longer lia. for any more $'s, they can't make the guy's hve bigger policies. brian could personally sue the guy's, but what are they worth? $1mil........i doubt it, $100k, prolly not........so in the end he may win the suit but never collect.

Brian,
Good to see you're posting more.
So some of the newer riders here can have a better perspective, what do you think the approximate speed of impact was?

The limit is set by the state nad IMO it is not reasonable.. this is why everyone should should get under insured or uninsured and get high coverages it would have picked up the settlement depending on the coverage you get. I carry at least 100,000 coverage on my policy with my bike.

Brian,
You don't know me, I was kind of just a lurk(still am) back before your accident. Anyways, glad to see you posting again. This board needs more members like yourself to help educate all these new young(arogant) riders coming out of the wood works. It seems to me like you have a good head on your shoulders and you'll be fine no matter what happens. My dad was in a wheel chair 85% of his life, but he did'nt let that stop him from doing anything he set his mind to. Good luck to you, and remember just because you don't ride anymore does'nt mean you don't have friends here.

I am guessing somewhere in the 80mph range. But I don't recall the actual speed.

I know exactly who you are Mike. We have met all over the place. We have met at Robbie's Diamond Shamrock in Chappell Hill, Hooters NASA, Hamburger Wednesdays...etc. We rode once to WBW together.
