Does any one know of a good way to research a vin number on a used bike? looking at buying one on craigslist, but the title is from ohio, so i just wanna check it out. thanks!

you CAN get a carfax off a bike VIN. it won't tell you much though.

call local pd and ask if they are willing to check a vin in their stolen database. most will be willing to check it for you.

guy seems pretty legit, but like i said the title is in ohio. so do i have to call ohio cops or can someone local do it?

hmmm, i hate this , i just went and saw it and want to get it but the guy never registered it in his name either so would have to deal with all that bs. just more of a hassel than i was wanting to get into. But i want it sSOOOOO bad

Not a hassel necessarily. If the title is signed by the original owner then you should be good. Going to have to put ins on it first, pay for TX inspection and green form, take that to DMV and pay taxes and then they will give you registration.

right but all that would have to be done before gettin the loan right? see its the whole financing situation, because wont the bank make the check out to the guy on the title?

all depends. talk to the bank. if the title is signed by the original owner and ready for the next owner to sign the bank can likely still take a loan on it.

nope any suggestions? just looked at bank of america and apparently they don't do bikes, and it says the name on title and seller must be same. !

ACU Texas (Associated Credit Union). Have 3 loans through them. Awesome rates and great service. Most of their locations are in Kroger's or Randall's but they have some stand alone branches.
